Roger that :salute:

If you're playing at 30FPS, you aren't going to notice FPS swings like this because you are likely GPU bound, and the swings are happening on CPU.

You definitely should be getting more than 60FPS, even after these recent issues. Generally these are some steps I'd recommend trying:
-Install latest drivers

-Reboot your machine

-If you only have one stick of ram, getting two helps (for dual channel ram speed)

-Update windows

-reinstall windows

You'll also get massive FPS drops when you open the options menu! We have fixes for this coming in the next patch as well.

We've been talking a bit about whether this is something we should do. The same people that would build that are the people who fix the perf issues though... :sweatguy:

For AMD specifically, I've mentioned this elsewhere, but we're investigating why AMD hardware is getting worse performance than Intel/Nvidia. You're correct that these parts have been underperforming on the game since the start of beta (we had actually already discovered this in testing prior to beta, but weren't able to identify a fix).

Thanks for the post! I work on performance testing on VALORANT, so I can provide some insight. Couple of things I'd like to clarify:

  • We're aware of reports that FPS is worse this patch, and we're actively investigating. Please keep reporting when this happens! We're committed to improving performance in the game.
  • When we talk about performance, we usually focus on frametime, not FPS. FPS = Frames per second. Frametime = amount of time it takes to process one frame. We like to use frametime because it provides more consistent relative swings in performance. For example, a dip from 420FPS to 300FPS sounds dramatic, but in terms of frametime, you're going from 2.38ms -> 3.33ms (a one millisecond increase). Respectively, Going from 300FPS -> 140FPS is a 3.8ms frametime increase. We care a lot about maintaining smooth performance, so we don't want to see a lot of swings here, but 1-3ms deviations when activity is happening aren't completely unacceptable o...

Did you see this on the latest patch? (0.49)?

We put in a fix for this in 0.49, so if it's still happening, then we must have missed some other cases where it could happen.

We're always going to be working on, fixing, breaking, and re-fixing FPS in the game :-)

We're still working on AMD optimizations, so I don't have an AMD-equivalent yet. It's hard to make a recommendation without knowing how the different parts perform :-)

Ok. But can you recommend any way to change valorants code to be compatible with 32 bit? I really want to play it but my laptop is 32 bit and I can't upgrade windows because its a family computer and my family does not want me to.

We will not be supporting 32-bit :(

Sorry I wasn't able to find anything exactly related to the AMD optimization only posts in wich people talked about the issue. I'm new to reddit but i see the devs are pretty active in here, I appriciate it. Thanks for this cool game and keep up the good work.

Thanks! Sorry if I was short. It's been really stressful lately. Thanks for your kind words :-)

Maybe? It will be a bit rough.

We're working on optimizing it further :-)

I just upgraded my i7 6600k to a ryzen 7 3800x and i diddnt got any improvements in term of FPS. (I upgraded because i wasnt able to get 240+ fps steady for my 240 hz display, most of the time I was able to but sometimes i wasnt and I experienced tearing.)

Overall its maybe a little more stable with the FPS but for example on the map "Bind" its horribly dropping towards the 160 mark! To make a little comparison: In CSGO my FPS increased by around 160 and I get 350-400 FPS Stable in 5v5's! (capped!)

In the final analysis I can tell that the upgrade that I mainly did for Valorant wasn't an upgrade at all and the devs need to fix the issues with AMD Ryzen CPU'...

We're looking into it :-)

Sometimes we're going to have performance drops when patches come out, but we're committed to investigating and resolving these issues.

We're still actively in the process of getting more server capacity online and getting servers into more locations. If you want to troubleshoot your connection, I'd suggest downloading winmtr and running some tests to look for packet loss in your connection by querying a few common websites such as google.

TL;DR: I don't know, it depends

Any ETA on it? Or it's just something that will be fixed as you guys experiment more?

It will take some time. It's not an easy fix.

Can you tell me if you're still getting those drops? I'm curious how your FPS is in three scenarios:
1. Just patched and launched the game
2. Closed the game completely, then launched again
3. Restart PC after updating (and having launched previuosly), then launch the game
