I will be the next few for sure, not sure about after that. I may keep doing them but roll them into a bigger gameplay roadmap, rather then just a champions roadmap

It's pretty frustrating. Feels like Latino representation is always the last thing anyone cares about, and it's crazy cus there's a pretty big league audience from Brazil to Mexico, and like a quarter of the city you guys live in is Mexican.

And ixtal is so f**king cool. I want more of it

Same, we are for sure going to do some in that space soon

Partly yes. Obviously trying to tell same story across a bunch of games was hard and we missed a bit on consistency for SoL, but when we talked about it we also weren’t sure it was the best strategy even if we got the consistency right since you just get the same story in every game. For SG the goal was that any games or teams that wanted to participate in the moment would tell different stories but all in the SG universe which is also why different games have different champions. That way if you play multiple games you would actually get to see different stories in the SG universe rather then all the same

I was the creative lead for the event for the first like 6 months ish, and I was also lead for the entire program stretching across all the games that are participating. So I worked on a lot of the early creative stuff, and how the different games would plug into it. Not alone of course, but with a whole team of amazing creative rioters.

I was technically program lead throughout the whole thing, though once all the teams started running I wasn't really doing much but giving feedback on things here and their. I wasn't working on any of the day to day stuff like I was for Spirit Blossom and Sentinels, just the really high level stuff. As I started to ramp up more and more into the Gameplay lead position I started to work less and less on the SG event.

right what im saying is the graph is including the healing she gets from her regular passive as well

It's because she reflects back heals when people heal her, which count towards her total healing. So anytime someone heals themselves near Nilah or heals Nilah she heals either herself or a teammate

I mean I love having the most anime fight moments possible when I play League, so contrary to many people my favorite champs to play against are hyper mobile assassins and skirmishers like Akali, Yasuo, Yone, Zed, Irelia and Ekko. I also play those types of champs as well.

The most memorable game of LoL I ever played was a game where I was playing Ekko into Yasuo. So many fun mind games and outplays.

Not really, since we also think she will be appealing to Vayne/Kai'Sa/Samira players of which their are A LOT of.

I am worried about the inverse of pursuing game variance. Because Taric and Rakan do not have high playrates, Riot might be avoiding making defensive/enchanter melee support champions. Do low playrates of archetypes necessarily indicate that players do not want to play them, or that Riot hasn't unlocked their full potential?

Of course we think about that as well. Trying to make a more broadly appealing champ in a otherwise lower appeal role is something we reach for though it’s admittingly harder to do. The next champion is a attempt to make a more broadly appealing skill fantasy tank, though who nows if that will happen or not since tanks are historically a more niche role

Not really, I have played her a ton in play tests and I think despite how similar they might look on the surface they actually play and feel very different

If that's the case, why hasn't there been really any attempt to make a champ that resonates with Ezreal players? As far as I know he's been an INCREDIBLY high pickrate champion regardless of meta or his balance. I see him almost every other game and honestly it's quite annoying.

Actually Zeri was trying to do that with the really high uptime Q and a kit reliant on skillshots

Something feels wrong about motivating an entire champion to appeal to Yasuo mains.

It’s not that Yasuo mains are powerful in our minds it’s that game to game variance is very important to us. We think that’s part of reason league doesn’t get boring.

Globally yasuo is usually one of if not the most picked champion in the game. A champion with that high of a pickrate actually goes against the goal of game to game variance since the champion will show up in game so often.

For Champions like that we have intentionally made some Champions who have goals to take playrate from those champions which will in turn increase game to game variance. For example, in the past we also saw Thresh dominating support pickrate and Vayne dominating ADC pickrate. Both Pyke and Kai’Sa were attempting to (and succeeded in) massively reducing those champions pick rate. Now instead of seeing Thresh 2 games in a row you might see Thresh and then Pyke, which is better variance.

Yone was a attempt to steal some of Yasuos playrate and he succeeded in that a bit but act...

So genuine question then. Why are champions like Rakan, Thresh, and Urgot considered ranged if she has a further attack range? I always assumed it was just a line that was if more than x you are ranged if less you are melee, but if you could please explain what the thought process is here I would greatly appreciate it.

Well I think u are making a lot of assumptions based on a video for a champion who’s kit hasn’t been revealed yet.

Yes, of course. We want to make all types of different champion complexities. Simple champions are part of that as well. We don one really simple champion in dev that im excited about. I should hopefully be able to start talking about that champion in the next roadmap

Champs like Aphelios demonstrate complexity in the fact that it takes time to learn to optimize their buttons, whereas characters such as lee sun take raw practice and technique to truly access their powerful options, for aphelios to some extent it’s just getting the right gun combo

yes, of course, we try to create both. I think the type of champion u are talking about is a lot more broadly appealing, and we try to do a lot more often. Their are some players that like a champion where you have to learn how to optimize their buttons like Aphelios or Invoker though.

I personally don't think Aphelios is complex at all tbh and I'd hate for him to be the limit of champ complexity cause people refuse to either try him in practice tool or watch a video of someone playing him

No, Aphelios has been a successful champ for us. Every champ isn't going to be for everyone and we are 100% ok with that. Aphelios was targeting players that specifically wanted a super complex ADC and he landed well with that audience. He maintains a solid pickrate for how complex he is. I dont think we would make a ton of champs that complex. but the roster def has space for them. Trouble right now is that most of our high complexity champs are mages, so other roles are lacking in that space right now more then mages (hence why we are making a high complexity tank right now) Azir really being the stand out high complexity mage, but you even have stuff like Zoe and Ryze who are up their in complexity
