Note I have managed to get all the way in on the drop. We see some issues, but it seems once I got in on a drop everything is fine.

It might be worth restarting the game to see if you can get back in.

To confirm - i can't connect, so I am experiencing it as well. We are looking into it right now, and I will post back details. If you are ingame, you can keep playing, and once back online your progress should be saved once reconnect is made. If you are not, you will just have to sadly wait or play in offline mode.

Sorry folks, working on this as fast as we can.

UPDATE 4am NZST.

We are working on the issue now. Whole system is down while we reboot, it's just safer that way. It was only affecting a few nodes, so some local reboots got many people at least one save. But some none - so we have to fix it. Sorry folks will keep you updated.

UPDATE 4:40am NZST

The outage is "resolved" for now.

I put inverted quotes because we have a strategy that treats the symptoms (and gets us back online), but it doesn't solve the root cause - which we don't know yet.

So at the very least, we can continue to fix this if it crops up again.... Read more

We are exploring adding player run dedicated servers, and other changes, that will better support this kind of play. We have a rough prototype of this running, and will provide more info in future devblogs.

Dedicated Servers We are actively working with those running Dedicated Servers, both on the forums and in discord, to ensure we get the best we can. As such, we have decided to release a hotfix with some urgent fixes, mainly focused on those running dedicated servers.

IMGUI issues on Dedicated Server Linux Some of those running Dedicated Servers using the Linux binary are encountering a spam of warnings related to IMGUI. We use an excellent external library called Dear IMGUI in the main game, to allow us to do complex UI. This is not used in the "terminal" version of the game, but is still included in the distribution. As outlined in the last post, this move to a union of the main game and dedicated server code bases, its complex for us to remove individual packages and components - so something we need to look into. Until there, while you can safely ignore the warning being spammed, they can be disruptive to running the server.

Can you confirm if you are running any mods? We know that some mods are causing errors with generating stationpedia files. Try running with all the mods disabled, and see if that works.

Yes it should be working. Do feel free to post more info and settings and we might be able to help diagnose the problem or bug

A really good question.

Generally speaking the major disk loading occurs during game boot.

Because Stationeers doesn’t use a lot of textures, there also is not a need to load and unload textures.

The exception to this is file loading and saving for worlds, and given world saves can be quite large they could cause issues during auto saving in slower disks.

Having said that the game itself loads all its resources into RAM and doesn’t do further loading during game execution

Note that the dedicated server has changed a lot, but has a great deal more functionality. Old guides won’t be relevant tho, but it has instructions when it boots up

The update was deployed not long after I posted. If you go to the game Hub, you should see the announcement. The dedicated server is deployed for both Linux and windows.

The dedicated server was not quite ready to go for the last patch but it's here now and it's better than ever.

Our deployment of the refactor also highlighted a suite of problems we needed to jump onto quickly. Some we managed to patch very quickly, including during the weekend when we deployed the update. Some took a little longer but are here now.

Dedicated Server Rework

With the complete rework of the multiplayer that we launched in our last major update, we applied the same treatment to how we approached dedicated servers. The steps we have taken allow us to walk towards truly being able to run public servers with many players. We think that, over time, the work we have done now is a great first step to really being able to build online communities for Stationeers. This is just our baseline, and we plan to ext... Read more

The old voice did not have all the files necessary, as a significant number of words had been introduced.

We will be producing different voice packs although initially this will be focused on different languages.

The voice used will depend on availability. If we have to make substantial changes in the future, and the voice actor is not available, then we have to rerecord all of the words. Otherwise it is too jarring to have some of the words in one voice, and others not.

Even if you could access the old voice, ~40% of the voice files would have to be the new voice as there was no recording for it in the old voice.

We have been working hard over the last eight months, building a new team and adopting a new approach based on lessons learned with our other studio projects, such as ICARUS. As part of our review of the project, and where it was at, we identified major changes that needed to occur in the project, in order to progress the game to where we all want it to be.

This rework would require us to touch nearly every system in the game, reworking from the ground up systems such as Multiplayer and how our memory was managed in the game. This was a huge effort, and very daunting - taking us away from the regular update cadence we have been providing. Finally, all this hard work has bought us here: the start of a great process of discovering what Stationeers can really be.

Much of our work has been devoted to redoi... Read more

MP is working in the beta, and had been progressively working more and more from the date we launched the refactor beta.

AotR offered a proof of concept of the refactor, as we had a real example that we could test. Additionally, it had a code base with more than a passing resemblance to Stationeers, meaning we were able to port the work across.

AotR has not been released because it doesn't need to be released in advance, it has a small group of people involved in testing so it is able to get feedback without taking the risk of people being disheartened by bugs etc... Just because it isn't released yet does not mean it doesn't allow drawing worthwhile conclusions about systems and new approaches.

Using that project we were able to assess the numbers to do with bandwidth, rendering, connection, logging, dedicated server etc... Of these, all of them have been successfully ported across except some of the more complex batch rendering approaches from AotR.

The beta branch multiplayer is very functional, every day we are spending the morning playtesting ourselves. It's already dramatically better than what is on the main branch. The server browser is not functional yet, but close. So you can only play on the beta branch if you know the IP address of the computer hosting.

Hopefully some can share their experience. From the "sentry" crash reporting information, well over 70% of users are running the beta branch currently.
