Hey VALORANT community,

Thank you so much for your continued support and dedication to VALORANT! It’s been a rowdy year for the Modes team. You’ve been playing and experiencing Spike Rush, Free For All Deathmatch, and today, you’ll be shooting snowballs out of a Killjoy-enhanced molly launcher for Snowball Fight.

We’re really proud of the modes we’ve been able to get out to you. Spike Rush and FFA DM continue to see very healthy engagement, and we’ve been able to update them over time to keep them fresh, as well as hit the major improvements you’ve asked for. We’re not done yet— Keep giving us feedback!

The modes team came into existence in the spring of this year. A very small ragtag group came together, from all different parts of the game, to see what could be done by launch and beyond. By game development definitions, we had an incredibly short timeline to bring up some core technology we needed, design and develop Spike Rush, and release it to you. In fact...

I loved Iceland when I visited! Our artist was inspired by a visit abroad when coming up with the idea.

Ya, for at least now we are keeping it straight forward and giving the award per rank. We look forward to hearing your feedback as you all get the reward in January, we'll be listening closely, and we will make changes or iterations as needed based on feedback.

Yup, just confirming your Episode 1 rank reward (gun buddies) will be based on the highest Act Rank you got across the entire Episode. Meaning we will look at your Act I, Act II, and Act III (currently in progress) Act Rank and give you the reward based on your best performance / highest Act Rank.

Have to say that the way they give away the riot gunbuddy is kind of cool. Hopefully I can get one very soon. And It is the first time I heard about slack servers. Man we have a lot in common. For the things I want, I try hard to get it and if I still can’t have it then I won’t care that much.

Whats your Valorant tag? :) I can send you a Riot gun buddy!

Hey brother! I'm super enjoying valorant right now, and I'm really into data, it's so interesting to me how such complex agents work in concert in this game. I love browsing sites like lolalytics and looking at champ winrates and learning curves to find the next champ to learn. Have you guys provided a robust API like League has, and if not, do you plan on doing so?

Again, really enjoying the game, and I love the content you guys are creating. It's gotta be very complex to balance a game with so many moving parts, and I gotta commend you guys for taking on the challenge!

My understanding is that we’ve provided some amount of API, but I’m not sure if it’s at the same level of League’s or not (just not the area I work in). I’m hoping we get some solid third party sites up and running soon similar to the League scene!

Hi VALORANT Community,

First of all, we want to say thank you for going on VALORANT’s first year, from the beta releases to where we are today.

The Maps team has been on the long road of development the last few years. It’s a project that the team has had strong passion and excitement in during production, and we are glad to be able to finally talk about it and share with you in 2020. We started with the release of Bind and Haven during our closed beta period, which was soon followed by the release of a work in progress version of Split during open beta. Your feedback during this phase gave us valuable information and allowed us to make adjustments leading up to launch.

Super excited to have a blog post where we can speak a bit more candidly about what we do. Balancing perception and reality is always tough, and there's still a lot we can learn about and improve on the balance process, but it's been an awesome journey so far.

It's not touched on too much in this article just due to word count, but working with data is actually only a fraction of what we do; a good chunk of our time is spent building out frameworks and philosophies for how to use that data; no amount of data is useful if the team isn't aligned on what metrics matter, how we want to use them, and what sorts of decisions we'll make off of them.
