I heard someone at Riot once say that “abilities don’t kill” in VALORANT, but... there are clearly ones that do, like Raze. Are you breaking your promise?

This statement isn't completely accurate—especially in a game that already had Raze and Killjoy's gameplay locked in before our announcement... Anyway, that was our mistake—a big part of that mistake was in missing the nuance (specifically that tactical fundamentals—not just “abilities don't kill”—are a key component).

To your point, some players have unfortunately been abusing the early surrender system to expedite being able to play Competitive. We do not condone that sort of behavior. In the next 1-2 patches we are going to stop counting games you surrender towards unlocking Competitive. So you will either need to win the game, or play the entire game out, for it to count towards unlocking Competitive.

We’re looking into ways to reduce the impact when there are wider spread issues like the cloudflare impact or major service impacts. Right now we have a hammer, which would be turning off restrictions for everyone. That works when it’s 60-100% of players. When it’s 1-5% of players, becomes less useful. It’s something my team is working on as a next up feature.

After three epic events, the North American Ignition Series is approaching its end for this year. But we’re revving the engines one more time with our fourth and final event, Pop Flash, from Wednesday, August 26 through Sunday, August 30.

Thanks for this, this rules out respawn as the sole cause! Once we're back from break I'll chat with the team about it and reference this video.
