The API seems to pull data in 30 minute increments so it possible it doesn't catch the same numbers we do. Either way, our overall player count has stayed consistent and we continue to peak around 13k concurrent.
That is correct. Secondary modes are available for alternate ways to enjoy the game, but the Primary Queues are:
Random Battles
Co-Op Battles
Operations
These three are available at all hours of the day.
I'm not sure what data you are citing because that isn't correct. NA tends to peak around 13k players and has done so for many months. Loss of a quarter would be a drop to 10k which hasn't happened because we still peak around 13k concurrent users.

Player Churn exists with the consistency of gravity. Players play a game until they want to play something else. Literally playing thousands of battles represents thousands of hours of gaming experience... there will always be a stopping point for anyone as only a few people find a game that they will continue to play for the rest of their life.
Subs and CVs may be cited as reasons to ...

It is already offered in the form of Ranked season which are odd-Tier, Clan Battle seasons, and even Brawls that have those conditions. There are people that enjoy the content in specific, but none of those modes overtakes the popularity of Random Battles. Splitting queues divides your playerbase further which causes wait time and access issues.
Brawls and other events are Time-Gated in order to help the modes have enough players to function. Time-Gates help normal queues populate outside of higher population windows of time, but also increase engagement for the off-mode during the window of availability since people try to take advantage of what's available while it's available.

They exist in our game and are thus available in the matchmaking system. There is a side benefit of AI Submarines providing an experience where pings can be experienced and ASW can be used. Submarines do not dive lower than periscope depth, so it's not hard to shoot them when they give their position away through constant pinging.
I did relay this internally and the response is that the matchmaker allows up to two Submarines for players. We do not seem to have a way to limit the AI fill rates independent of potential human fill rates, so the up to 2 Submarine slots is there for use at the matchmaker's discretion.
Greetings Captains,
Welcome to this week’s edition of the New Player Captain's Log! For those of you who aren't sure what this is or what it might do, feel free to check out the introductory post here.
With each topic I discuss, I also added a question at the end to see how y’all feel about things in comparison to how I feel. I just thought it would be an interesting way to get some discussion going!
Without further ado, let’s proceed with this week’s Log!
Focus Points of the Week
Here’s a list of the focus points for this week:
1. Try out British Battlecruisers for the first time
2. Advance the German BB line a bit
3. Continue to improve in submarines
British Battlecruisers
In order to prepare for the Ghosts of Past, Present and Future Forum Contest, I needed to play ships at various tiers in order to collect example screenshots. I used this as an opportunity...
OP states "most popular pvp mode".
We already have Ranked and Clan Battles which provide this. Current Bronze Ranked has no access to either Sub or CV and the later Leagues let you see if a CV is in queue should you elect to wait a bit.
Ranked and Clan Battles do enjoy a sub-set of players, but neither mode approaches the popularity of Random Battles.
Right? There is something oddly satisfying about getting a unique number in an ocean of uniformity and being like, "This is my bounty account. There are many like it, but this one is mine".
There are far more ships in-game that are tech tree or "game-free" (coal, steel, etc...) than there are doubloon premiums.
Correct! Part of streamlining the event to make it possible on other servers was to have all volunteers use their own accounts. However, since it was the press-account name that told people who was a bounty and who was not a bounty in previous events, we needed a way to show it, so we made markers! This fixed several long-term problems the bounty event had:
Distributing hundreds of press accounts is very time consuming
"Policing" the press account users was tough since they had to be matched up against their user if they broke rules (time)
Distributing rewards for participation had to be done manually after the event was over (time)
Players could not track their progress in real-time and had to "count" the number of battles they played themselves
Teammates often considered the press accounts to be "bots" and saw them as a liability to have on their team
Now, a ...

Gaming preferences move and shift as players get used to a game and move to another one. Sometimes moves are permanent and other times temporary. Their account will still be there if players choose to download the game and give it another go in a few months or years.
