The Puerto Rico is a Tier 10 Special Ship. Premiums and Tier 10 Special ships come with Bonus Packages installed.
I'm not saying it's protecting weak spots. I'm saying it make the visual of the ship "noisier" so that it's harder to discern individual features.
No Camo:

When glancing at the hull to identify secondary or torpedo placement, the visual pattern used in the camo causes a blend effect that is harder to discern.

AP shells fuse at 1/6 of their calibur size (for the most part). Edgar has 152mm, so 152/6 = ~25mm. Also, shoutout to @Ahskance on helping me out with this answer.

Yeah! I did a lot of strings of operations earlier this year (Newport being one of them). I really enjoy ops! I find myself going back to them frequently regardless of what the Op of the Week is.
Camo still does the same thing it did realistically. It breaks up to lines of the ship and can give a color scheme that is harder to discern.
There may not be direct gameplay benefits in a Stat sense, but having the noise of a camo pattern makes it a little harder to dial in on a specific part of a ship when leading your reticle.
If you find Bronze to be a challenge that feels like you can Rank Out with some effort... you might want to stick with Bronze. This gives you a League that meets your play expectations, but still allows room to get wins and Rank Out.
If Silver qualifiers are extremely unpleasant, then you should take that as a Warning. Silver Qualifiers has you grouped with Silver League players, which might be resulting in matches where you aren't feeling as in control as you would in Bronze. If you don't feel like you're one of the most dangerous players in the match, you might not be!

Hi! Not a stupid question at all.
WoWs is an incredibly complex game. Sure, it's easy to hop into a bote, press WASD and click on stuff, but to really learn some competence takes hundreds of games, even thousands. This can be a major deterrent to new players and "simpler is better" is generally our rule of thumb to avoid overloading new players. Mods and such are available through modstation , which we support, for those that want to make use of more info.
And yes, we do look at stuff like you suggested and add it when we think it's appropriate
Yeah I really like how T6 really feels like ships as a whole start to get some distinct flavor. I also agree that Ark Royal feels like a nice "intro to T6" CV, but I can also see how she might be a bit slow. I have only used slower CVs thus far, so I probably didn't notice at the time, haha.
