POIs often get shuffled about as they're updated, or new ones are added to the game. Nav has come a long way since early days. They do try and squeeze one of each POI into the map.

Start hacking at tree stumps. Every one of them. Consume the honey to lower your infection by 5% over time.
Furthermore, there is a fair bit of medical loot in POIs - but the tree stumps will help you really early game.
The searches you're returning are old and outdated.
My default settings these days are really comfortable to play with. Nomad/permadeath, but set your days to 20 minutes, horde every night, max XP to speed things up. Choose your difficulty and run speed, then have some fun using a different place every night for hordes.

Odd thing that's been happening to me since patch. When ever I generate a world that looks decent on preview I make a copy and fly around on Cheat mode before deciding to make a real version of the world or not for me and friends but.. since patch if a zombie sees and attacks you while you're mid air i'm getting Nullreference errors as the zombie AI update seems confused on attacking a mid air person.
Ensure important bugs like this are reported on the forums. Include your logs so we know exactly what is going on.

Oh yeah, I always forget to add the permadeath part when I mention settings - day 104 I think is my best so far (f*cking demos). The whole not running part is just me being lazy and playing for fun instead of having to concentrate on the game itself.
I'd never been able to use mods before A19 cause I didn't have a good enough computer to even play it vanilla. Well, right around the time A19 released I got a new laptop. After dying on my vanilla file since I play permadeath I decided to try out something new and tried Darkness Falls. I haven't been able to put that mod down since. It fixes the one major issue I've always had with the game, lack of proper endgame goals.
Sidenote but related, I kinda thought of trying to get into modding since I want to be a game dev and it I thought it might be good practice. Turns out I've been too busy either playing 7D2D or focusing on getting into college lol. That and it's very daunting with literally no coding experience ATM.
College does take precedence, but in your free time you could check out the Khan Academy or something to learn some fundamentals. It doesn't really take much to crate your first little modlet and be proud of it. Good luck with your college apps.
