Wild Pirate Encampments and Megapatch Going Live to the Public Test Realm


We will be launching our Public Test Realm again today in order to test all of our Megapatch content along with the much-awaited Wild pirate Encampments! Wild Pirate Encampments

Wild Pirate Encampments (WPE) are collections of enemy NPC characters, defensive fleets, and fortifications which inhabit claimable islands. They have varying weapons (melee and ranged), defenses (various cannons/turret types), and live in pre-built forts. They’ll also have AI ships representing all 4 classes (Sloop through to Galleon) patrolling the shoreline of their islands. The placement of Encampments will be randomized along the islands, and they can also include inland encampments without ships. You’ll have to explore an island to discover all the encampments which inhabit it, and the number can vary based on the island size, with larger islands having bigger and more Encam...

This is where we're at currently:

Team are cracking on with the Xbox and upcoming major patch


We're hoping to have another PTR round featuring some wild pirates maybe as soon as this weekend (more on this later!)


Unlikely to see a live-game patch/2x this weekend because of the above focus

And beyond that, we'll begin starting work on Erik's roadmap which we discussed in our live (not recorded ) stream, if you hadn't read about it, you can here:

There isn't much else to share beyond that (for now )

Quite a lot of back and forth in this thread about 2x events and when the best time to hold them is! I've always personally been a fan of having more variety in the events and giving them more spread over days, so it's not just the weekends and it's not just the same rates (how about bonuses for killing SoTD too?); it's something we've spoken about previously but have yet to act upon and it may be a while until we cross those bridges anyway.

As for 2x this weekend with a live game patch, it's not looking likely. We're still working on putting some things together for a PTR update featuring some wild pirates which will hopefully be in your hands this weekend.

Not at this moment, the team is currently cracking on with the Xbox release and the next mega update. In the future, when the new roadmap begins, we'll definitely be looking at supporting special days/holidays with in-game events.

There has been a Captain's Log and a Roadmap Recap since this thread was first posted:


There's loads of info in the Roadmap Recap regarding acknowledging the issues that we’ve identified in the game and outlining our plans to address them. Aside from those, our current status remains the same: we'll be a little quiet as we focus on important things internally and we're looking forward to a stream and some announcements towards the end of the of the month.

We've got our heads down at the moment working on some things, so expect it to be a bit more quiet than usual for a while.

As for 2x weekends, they aren't guaranteed to happen every weekend. In this case, we were working on a build to deploy (perhaps to the PTR again too with some pretty critical changes) but it needed more time internally, so we may end up going out with it later during the week and we'll discuss whether that includes a 2x or not.

Appreciate the positivity!
I love the ships in general and (yes, even though it needs to be hit with our upcoming balance changes) I think ship PvP combat can be really enjoyable. I even like listening to the ship-related sound effects and visualising the talented Watson Wu and his team clambering about on a 1812 replica ship to record them:


I really enjoy the creative builds you guys create. I've seen Tahitian marina, castles, taverns, hanging gardens, skull forts, Red Wedding halls...along with intricate sail and ship designs. The Aurora Borealis is really ambient. Waveworks gives a cool effect to the ocean, I know the guys spent a lot of time on that.
Our level designers excelled themselves, I'm blown away by some of the points of interest, statues, and ruins are just amazing. The great hall in the Polar Dungeon is a place I hung out in whilst doing QA on that patch. There are also uwotm8 moments with the level designe...

Public Test Realm Update

It's time for us to bring down the PTR in order to iterate on new builds internally. In a few hours the PTR will no longer be accesible to players.

Thank you to all of you whom helped us run it through its paces, bug reported and gave feedback on new content and systems. Your contributions are greatly appreciated and will directly benefit the quality of the upcoming Mega Patch.
