If you've had the game installed for a while, it's probably in an almost unreachable spot deep in C: that MS used to use.

Recently they've changed their mind on that and they are typically installed under C:\Xbox Games\ or D:\Xbox Apps\ . Right click on the game in your Xbox App Library and choose Manage, Files. Does it show a location there?

If not it's probably the first option above. Best to uninstall, then install again in one of those accessible locations.

Ah, so you don't in fact see our launcher.

What if you go directly to where CK3 is installed in File Explorer and double click on ck3.exe there?

Make sure the new ck3.exe is in the exceptions lists of your antivirus app.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

Any better?

Just to be clear - you all see the launcher itself okay, it is only when you hit PLAY in it this happens?

And you are all on the Xbox/Gamepass edition?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

Yes, PLEASE test with a new campaign with ALL mods disabled, let us know what happens. Thanks.

My guess is the new patch has a problem with that old MacOS version, which was the minimum requirement back at game launch time 3 years ago; maybe QA simply don't have the bandwidth to test on every outdated OS version for every platform!

Would you consider updating to a later MacOS version?

Is this in a campaign started after the new 1.9.x patch? Or carried over from previous patches? Or both?

What antivirus app do you use? Make sure ck3.exe is allowed through all its exceptions list - you may need to re-do this everything a new ck3.exe comes out!

The Xbox app, not the launcher or game?

If so please try this Windows repair tool

Please attach files here rather than pasting in their whole contents, thanks.

I see OneDrive.exe is crashing on your machine. If your Windows User Documents folder is held there (ie in the MS cloud rather than locally) that would explain your problem.

If not though, please do a full **clean** re-install:

If you have any sort of cursor customisation in Windows enabled, like mouse trails, turn that off please.

Otherwise please try deleting all Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders , copying any valued save games elsewhere first.

Good luck!

There are no CK3 crashes recorded in that dxdiag, but there are some LiveKernelEvent entries. These happen when Windows is forcibly downed or rebooted. Have you seen those happen, are they related to this game or something else?

What fps are you seeing in the game before it crashes, anything over 60?

Kriegsspieler said: I just want to tag onto this thread and report that I too am having trouble with the launcher. It has been months since I last played ck3, and the first thing that happened when I started, of course, was that I was asked to close and install the new launcher. (I also installed a bunch of new mods, if that makes any difference, which I suspect doesn't). When I restarted the game, everything went fine, but after exiting the game, Steam thought the game was still running. I tried closing the game using the "stop" function in Steam, but that just hung up on "Stopping." All that was left at that ...

That should be fixed in an update to the Epic version a day or two ago. Did you get that?

As for the launcher issue with CK3, I'm not sure what could cause that. Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/P... Read more

Can you run those games from ck3.exe and aow4.exe directly from File Explorer?

That means that either there is some app or utility running under the original user ID causing this to the game, or that profile is corrupted.

When running as that ID disable all startup utilities and apps you can then reboot. Does the problem still happen?

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Is this just in one particular campaign, or any one you start and play?

Any mods involved?
