Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign

Do you still see the problem then?

That still says Windows 8 - did you see a Windows 8 Compat setting in the ck3.exe , properties, compatibility screen? Because I have no other explanation why that shows there.

THEN Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

Is that any better?

ezsobre said: Thanks for the response. I'm no coder, but a computer dummy, but it looks like the launcher is looking for something called "Frameworks/CoreHaptics.framework/Versions/A/CoreHaptics," which, when you open the relevant location, the "frameworks" folder doesn't have in my version of the OS X, 10.13.6. I take that new versions of the OS have this, and this is the problem? Is this something that paradox might patch in a future version or am I sunk with the game for now since i can't upgrade my OS X on this computer? Thanks.

Is this all in one particular campaign? Can you start and play a new one MP with these same players?

And, if any mods were involved, please try a new game with no mods.

Delete that system.log and run the game again. Does it make a new one, and populate it now?

We se no crash in this game in that dxdiag, unfortunately.

From that settings file the frame rate cap is not set - please set it to 60.

If the problem still happens then, what fps are you seeing in the game? What CPU and GPU temperatures just before it crashes?

Wolf6120 said: this really did only start happening quite suddenly on Sunday morning, the game was fine Saturday evening when I turned it off. I didn't even have the computer turned on between those two times, so I don't know what could have caused such an impactful change in memory capacity/usage in those 12ish hours.
There was no patch released just then. 1.9.0.3 was on 2023-05-02 and 1.9.0.4 on 2023-05-16. Which implies the issue comes from outside the game in some way.

I see you have Norton AV but disabled, plus Windows Defender active. Disabled AV app... Read more

Well Windows has definitely recorded those LiveKernelEvent entries! Something has happened there ...

Kutte89 said: if there is a way to reset the gaming cloud, maybe that could fix the problem.
You'd have to contact MS support about that I'm afraid!

Is the game installed in C:\XboxGames or D:\Xbox Apps or anything like that? Or elsewhere like C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ ?

If the latter, uninstall it then install in one of the former locations.

HOI4 and Stellaris minimum requirement is 4gb, this game's is 6gb, so it is actually more demanding of memory than our older ones.

Run Task manager/performance, then start this game in windowed mode so you can see TM. Do you see CPU, GPU, memory, IO, or anything at 100% when this issue is at its worst?

Can I get a new dxdiag please, plus install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here please.

Always best to start your own thread in future, rather than "me too" someone else's, thanks - you almost certainly have an unrelated cause to the OP's.

You have several LiveKernelEvent entries in that dxdiag, then a crash in your nVidia modules here:
+++ WER8 +++:
Fehlerbucket 1288861940842776560, Typ 4
Ereignisname: APPCRASH

CAB-Datei-ID: 0

Problemsignatur:
P1: nvcontainer.exe
P2: 1.37.3103.4323
P3: 621dbda6
P4: _OverClockingNvc.dll
If you are overclocking your nVidia, try undoing that.

The LiveKernelEvent entries mean the machine or Windows has been forcibly downed or rebooted. Have you seen that, is it related to this game or something else?

And you may as well try a f... Read more

wolfFRdu64 said: going to report that to steam, because even them couldn't help me

Steam cannot be expected to help with specific game problems, only with their accounts or client. They can hardly be across all possible problems for the thousands of games they host!

Did you try capping it at 60, as I suggested? because it's currently "capped" at 165! :D

Does this only happen in this one campaign, or also if you start a new test one (with ALL mods disabled)?

If the latter, you could try deleting everything in the Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders except any valued saved games.

Go into the Startup apps setup part of Windows and disable everything you can, then reboot. Does that improve the situation?

After all this time, your waving worked, hello there! We've already confirmed this issue, but thank you for your report, help and of course determination!

Also if you want to let us know about an issue we could potentially miss or wasn't just fixed in newer versions, you should check if this old report is not in our archive, as there is new way to report issues - in situations like that for better visibility just create new report using new reporting system!

And again, thank you for your patience!

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log

You have Windows 10 but that system.log says Windows 8, which probably means you or something has set the game to run in Win8 compatibility mode.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

IF that doesn't help can I get new copies of all those files, including a new dxdiag.txt . Thanks.

Wolf6120 said: I'm not sure what exactly unloading every other app means - just making sure they're not running when I launch the game?
Yes, that's right. The idea is to make sure there is enough available memory, as with 8gb in tis machine shared between the game and Windows, that doesn't leave a lot for anything else - if Windows was swapping stuff out to disk that might explain your performance issues.

What happens if you run ck3.exe directly from file explorer? If any Windows error shows there, let us know what it is, thanks.
