Please lodge a support ticket at paradox.zendesk.com, as this is looking like an issue that will have to be raised with the launcher devs and/or MS.

I'm not sure what you mean here; under Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 there are folders cache, terraincache and shadercache, yes?

GrimtaleS said: Earlier I have played CK3 on my laptop and there are not any crashes at all. Then I have bought PC with high specs and launched the game after Royal Court was released and I have constant crashes. Also Stellaris and HOI IV both run well.
After restart I can carry on last save.
I've attached settings, error and system. I do not have "exceptions.log" in this folder.
Well that's a huge error log! Let's clear things up, and remove those problem mods we see in there:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK... Read more

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam
OR
- exit the Epic app entirely
- run EpicGamesLauncher.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the Epic client

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

Lord Victor said: I can't, because I've unninstaled the game and erase all the data files, and then reinstalled it like you've said on the other thread.
Those files will be recreated the first time you run the game again ... ?!? Except dxdiag.txt which you need to generate in the way I described.

Does this happen to Ironman and non-Ironman games?

Does this also happen to Local saves?

What antivirus app do you use? Add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

We see ck3.exe hangs in that dxdiag but no crashes - is it actually crashing to desktop or hanging or both?

GrimtaleS said: I've tested with/without mods and it is still crashing.
Disabling mods does not remove effects they have already had on a save game file. Does this ever happen in a campaign that's never had any mods used in it?

If so has it always happened since you've had the game, or only since when?

When you restart the game can you carry on from thats ave file? Or it is broken then and crashes/hangs immediately from then ... Read more

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file ... Read more

Autosaves only happen with non-Ironman games of course.

If it was a non-Ironman game, could it have been saving and autosaving to the cloud?

Sorry about that! At least we improved it somewhat.

If you load a 1.4.4 Ironman save under 1.5.x then it is permanently altered immediately and cannot be then loaded under 1.4.4 .

If you are lucky though, Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/last_save.ck3 will still be the 1.4.4 version - try copying that into the /save game/ folder.

If that doesn't pan out then I'm afraid that campaign is lost. How did you get to load it under 1.5 though? It should prevent that, or at least warn you I thought?

I'm a little confused - your title seems to imply you've fixed this issue, but your text says the opposite. Can you clarify please?

Does that help?

Not inconceivable, but it's not happening to everyone. What if you delete the three 'cache' folders under Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 ?

So they were there once but disappeared? If so that is very hard to explain, as neither the game nor Steam deliberately deletes save files under any circumstances.

I can understand them appearing to be written out but not actually appearing at all (often an AV app getting in the way), but not being there but then disappearing!

They are not in the Windows recycle bin I assume?

TheMadJoker said: As for the saves, the ones that have disappear are the 3 autosave files. They've vanished from the "save games" folder
They were there but then disappeared? Or they never got there?

You are checking this by looking at the folder in File Explorer? Or just within the game?

Cloud saves you can see here:
