I ran that game on my Mac for several years with no problem.

Is there any particular action or event that seems to trigger the crash?

Just so you know, neither QA nor the developers read this forum, in general - it's purely technical support.

I'm not sure whether your information is best suited to the Bug Reports or Suggestions forums, to be honest!

Really, Steam crashes? That's a new one on me! Let's do a clean reinstall of Steam AND game:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- exit the Steam app entirely

- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the SteamApps folder
- run steam.exe to rebuild all that

- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign.

Any better?

That's not good! Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign, NOT with any existing one.

f you still get that problem, DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click th... Read more

So far as I know, there was no intent to preserve save game compatibility between the 1.4.x and 1.5.x patches - as is common for major new patches since there are too many fundamental changes to make that possible. The recommendation was to revert to the previous version to complete any campaigns under way.

Now it's been loaded under 1.5.x there's no way back I'm afraid!

I see, I am surprised that exiting Steam the starting it again does not 'reset' this situation for you; that makes it unlikely to be a Steam issue IMO.

Does this happen no matter how long you leave it before running the game a second time? That is, that only a reboot allows you to run the game again?

RegularJoe said: I have read the crash logs and they mention a lot of invalid hairstyles and nudity and other such stuff but it's hard to make heads nor tails of it.
That is typical of campaign that were played across major patches, such as 1.4.x -> 1.5.x - is that how long you've been playing this game?

If so, FYI the intent was you revert to the 1.4.x patches to continue campaigns started under those patches.

Not sure why it would be trying to update if it's already up to date. Have you opted into the launcher beta or something?

You'll see them in your Windows taskbar. Right click on them there, Exit.

Just to assure I understand you correctly, if I load the current game using 1.5.1., I should be able to confirm the same crash does not occur. But the game will be seriously messed up due to compatibility issues and may crash for other reasons. As the crash is very predictable, I should be able to prove the latest patch works.

I will attempt this when I am done with work.

You have given me hope. Thanks. You can understand how I am pretty reluctant to start another game unless I know I will not end up in the same p...

Heya mydrainisbamaged!

I gave it another look on the latest patch.
It seems like the particular issue that was causing the save game corruption has been fixed, as I can verify by loading your save on 1.5.1.1

Unfortunately though, because of the massive amount of changes made with the Royal Court patch, save-game compability is not possible, leading to side-effects such as all characters being near-death.

I am sorry that this is probably not the answer you were looking for and that I can't do more, but in this case it will not be possible to introduce the code fixes to an older version of the game.

Corvino27 said: play the game with reinstall driver. The game runs fine no crash.
But after I exit the game and play it again. The same problem game crash and steam also crash that's my basis why steam and NVidia have something to do in this crash.
Might have something to do with their ingame overlay? Steam and Nvidia have both.
Next time you exit the game, unload both Steam and GeForce Experience. Then run Steam again and run the game - do you still find this happens?

I see you use Avira, which is not known to be a problem with this game. But do make sure ck3.exe is in all its exemption lsts.

You have two Windows updates stuck "In Progress", are you aware of why that might be?

Please try unloading Nahimic while we work on this, I've seen it cause problems to our games.

It's possible this is a bug I suppose, although I haven't seen other such reports.

Are there any mods in use here?

If you disable Royal Court in our launcher, do these crashes still happen?
Corvino27 said: I THINK THERES SOME KIND OF PROBLEM BETWEEN THE GAME, STEAM & NVIDIA.
What are you seeing that points in that direction? Note that Steam and nVidia have no particular connection.

Are you sure of that? There's been no update from Intel for over a year? That doesn't sound right ...

You mention the Royal Court DLC several times. Are you saying if you disable that in the launcher, the crash does not happen?

That eliminates DirectX as being your problem, but can I get a new dxdiag.txt please?

And install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here, thanks.

Go into the Windows Control Panel. where you install or remove apps. Uninstall anything with 'nVidia' in the name.

To reboot you go to your Windows Start button down the lower left of your desktop. Choose Power-Restart.
