We did make the mount skin banner have half the skull face and half the normal face to try and allude to that. But I can see how that is easy to miss!

There's the real issue here. They don't want to/can't fix it, so easier to just shrug off the problem.

It was fixed last week. Players should no longer be able to remove sigils from unbound legendaries.

Pretty crappy when you don't have a confirmation dialogue for it. This is Anets mistake, not the players. IMO, Fix the dialogue interface, have this guy delete the item, gift him a new one and he gets the skin for free because ANET screwed up. That's really how customer service should work. We messed up, here is a small restitution for your trouble. Its also a small reward for bringing the problem to your attention before there are 10,000 other players who do the same thing and reddit pulls out the torches and pitchforks and it becomes the next major debacle in all of gameing news like Fallout 76 or other things anet has done in the past. That's just my opinion from a customer service standpoint.

If you guys sit on your hands and do nothing this has the potential to be the next big thing. It's not like you are giving out 10,000 free legendary skins..... Yet.

This is actually resolved already, and has been since very shortly after the Legendary Rune and Sigil patch - unfortunately, a few people managed to stumble across the issue in the meantime. The game will no longer allow players to remove a sigil from an unbound Legendary.

If someone comes across another case where they are able to end up in this weird state, please let me know so I can alert the team.

As for what is being done to resolve the issue for the users who encountered the problem - we're working on it. OP doesn't seem to have updated the post yet, but we have replied letting them know we're investigating a solution.

Unfortunately, deleting an item (at least for Legendary weapons) does unlock the skin. :(

We have no means of doing so, as stated previously. Believe me, we'd have a process for that, if it were an option.

Sure, but you'd have to go through with a customer service action to restore said deleted character, it's not like a customer can do that unilaterally. Do you not have any kind of flag you can place on an account to provide information in case of further tickets that would avoid that kind of issue?

We do not have a flag to prevent character undeletion.

Sorry, didn't mean to act like I knew better. A lot of us see situations like this and because we don't understand how the backend works we make assumptions. Most of us don't mean bad, we just clueless as to what does and doesn't work. In any case though, the OP did make a mistake due to an oversight in the game and it doesn't seem fair that he is punished for that.

You're fine, you're fine. :3

Just wanted to stress that when we say NO, we don't do it for a lark.

I know a worry there is that they could just recover that character through support at some later time, but is there a way to put a mark on that character at all? I have absolutely no idea of your systems just trying to throw ideas out there.

I appreciate you trying to pitch ideas, I really do. I hate to come off as 'rude' to users, but whenever these ideas get thrown, we have indeed already thought about them in the past.

No, we cannot flag a deleted character, as they are in a deleted state. No, there is no way to 'super delete' a character, either. It can be reclaimed, unless it gets corrupted, and there is no way of intentionally corrupting a character.

Wow, its word for word.

'Customer Support does not have the ability to unbind items or remove the item in a way that would not grant you the skins for this weapon.' I'm pretty sure this is false as others have stated in the comments. We can place the bugged weapons on a useless toon and delete it and not unlock the skin, and later have support gift a new version of the weapons.

I understand people wishing things weren't as they said they are, but comments such as "the CS team is lazy" or "they are lying" are not helpful - and in fact untrue.

Deleted characters can be restored, as such, deleting the character with items on it doers not remove the item from the game.

At this point, the ticket seems to be handled correctly. Deleting items unlock their skins - so that's NOT something that should be done in this case. When we ask a user to throw something away for a replacement, it's stuff that won't give you a skin unlock.

Aside from that, I can only direct to the ticket, this isn't something to solve on reddit.

I mean, we're not bothered with legit issues. x3

But, yes, our authorised dealers generally should help with such matters, too.

That would have been my own question as well.

Make sure you submit a ticket to the Payment / Billing support with this, and give them as much info as you can about this, please, including your purchase details, and maybe some screenies of the order. If it's from an official retailer, we can generally find a way to help, if only by talking to you so you can chat with them about what we told you.

So GW2efficiency has better account view tools than your own support team? Seems a bit weird... You guys can track mail coming and going from characters to monitor who gold sellers are sending gold to so it's not like you can't track that this guy didn't mail his infusion to someone else. Even GW2efficiency can see that the item is no longer in his account, his gold did not increase so he did not sell it on the trading post...

You guys can track list of examples, so issue is easy, too

Since I am seeing this a lot, I wanted to comment a bit more on this, as there often are a ton of misconceptions when it comes to such matters.

Number one is: Not all games are alike. Yours truly is a fossil, I have worked on online games for a long, long time and for many different ones. If between all of these I'd only compare Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2, the difference in tools the CS team has available is staggering. In Guild Wars, for example, I have no means to create just any item and make it appear on a player's account. Something that, in GW2, will take me three entry fields and four mouse clicks. For GW, however, it is just about impossible. GW also lost the ability to receive account roll backs. They broke in summer of 2012 and after months of trying to come up with a solution, we had to let players know that the function isn't available any longer. So ...
