Only forty permanent bans have been issued on this forum. Which is quite a small number considering the quantity of posts.

The the reference ban was provided without a ban reason; which is against our own internal instructions so I reversed it. Bans are a last resort and require their ban reason to be genuine, and provided at the time of the ban.

As such, I reversed the ban.

Submit these to https://icarus.featureupvote.com/ and upvote suggestions there that you agree with. I'll pass these comments on to the devs, but FeatureUpvote gets the most attention from the dev team. We've already implements heaps of player suggestions from there.

We're currently investigating a server issue. Currently not looking like any of the problems we've addressed previously, but touch-wood the servers are slowly coming back online now - Will be monitoring and posting more frequent updates in the Discord at http://discord.gg/surviveicarus and in this thread.

Obviously, I like the feature, but I believe I want every game I work on to be able to outlast my company and me. Many of the games I grew up on (OpenTTD, XCOM, etc...) have become community projects. I continue to strongly believe this is central to making a great game, and I have erred greatly in the past (DayZ Standalone) in not going quickly towards supporting communities within our games.

The convience of the feature was great, and I like, it, however:

1. When we made the decision to store prospect data on the basis of game time, instead of real world time, this means we now hold data far longer than we intended too.

2. We then made the decision to include the entire Olympus outpost as a prospect, vastly increasing further the data for a prospect.

3. We allow (behind the scenes) for an arbitrary amount of characters, the three character limit is simply applied at the UI level. With the number of general re-live events we have done, this m... Read more

Hey team!

Just wanted to leave a note here -

The wording in the post definitely raised more questions than answers, so apologies on that! I can confirm the team is very aware of player expectations and experience in this change, and aren't rushing headfirst into this blind. We'll hopefully have a clearer explanation for you soon, but rest assured worries about prospecting hosting and server storage are in the minds of the team working on this project.

Servers appear to be back up, but we'll be monitoring for a bit while we push the weekly patch before we close this pinned thread.

We've escalated to our service provider who has escalated to Microsoft who are currently in the call working through it with our engineers. There's a limit to what we can do. We could be planning how we're going to make fundamental architectural changes to Icarus to prevent this from ever happening again - but that was done after the last outage a couple of weeks ago and those plans remain unchanged.

The issue has been escalated to our Cloud provider, but i'll continue to post updates as we get them. Still no ETA unfortunately, but we'll have an update on our ongoing stability work prioritization we mentioned in last weeks patch notes in this weeks patch post as well.

Take it out. Put it back. No, not like that. Take it out again ;-)

Making it an option is an interesting idea. We kind of applied this approach when why added difficulty options plus insurance and hardcore to the missions - to aim to cater for those who find Icarus too hard and those who find it too easy.

Thanks.

We made this (pretty fundamental) change back in April, but aren't sure if word has spread to let players know about the change, and to come back and try it again.

It was often a shock to people to log back in again and see their character lost. On one hand it really created a sense of tension and risk for many players, but on the other hand maybe it created tooo much.

In short: the UDA don't care about contractors. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZyd1e51YMo

The pinned Lore thread links to this page with a bit more info: https://surviveicarus.com/lore/

Their first act was to cannibalize the remains of the original terraforming mission. The result: the Orbital Stations. Aging factory ships had failed their original task, these were repurposed as makeshift homes for the first Icarus ...

Originally posted by LoboFH: I would like that the devs tell us: "yeah, this is is an Early Acess, we plan to add interesting POI's, non earth-like fauna, etc, etc, etc, now there is only trees, rocks and boring landscapes, stupid deers and wolves because we only made 25% of our envisioned game"...

Unfortunately I don't think this will be the case, pity because it will spoil a promising idea with this lack of ambition.

From day one we've talked about our plans for more non-earth like elements in our future DLC, so yep that's always been the plan. You can see them on our Supporters Edition steam page.

Some elements that you might not have considered as part of the game loop could be the workshop items and your character. These progress permanently over time, even if your base doesn't.

Next time you drop in, crafting might be faster due to your talents or tools. Or you might be able to skip some lower tier things. Maybe only have room to bring certain tools down with you on the next drop. You might need to grow multiple specialist characters to master every mission type.

Bases aren't the only possible form of permanence. Having said that, you'll have seen we are also expanding on what's possible in the Outposts (like the full map-wide Olympus Outpost we added last week) for people who love building.

The update did not the cause the outage directly. It was effectively chance that caused the outage to occur at roughly the same time as the update.

Additionally these kinds of issues are ones of scale. It is almost impossible to test scale under real conditions with the player populations we have.

Instead, when the issue arose, me and up to eight other people worked all weekend, around the clock, to fix the issues and get this working.

Please don’t hijack others threads as it is confusing and starts flame wars, you are welcome to make your own if you want to discuss the out... Read more

Real engineers have arrived. I've briefed them on what I've done. At least I managed to get a fair chunk of people to make a save, but system is down while we reboot it now.
