Have no fear, it’s getting replaced by something much better. Much better.
IMO, removing Mark for Death is a great move. That skill is way too ubiquitous, with no downsides besides taking a skill slot. And it's not even exciting to use.
By the way, if I Sacrifice a minion under Doom Brand, both explosions will trigger, right?

Dread Shade
30 Mana
Target minion takes 3% max health per second for each second the shade has been active, but it and minions around it deal 40% more damage.
Dread Shade is a Spell coming to Necromancers in Patch 0.7.9.
The base functionality of the skill causes a massive damage buff to apply in an area around a minion. That minion will be subjected to increasingly large amounts of damage each second, and the buff will end when the minion dies or after 20 seconds - whichever happens first.

4% is actually the correct value unfortunately-- it was changed but the tooltip was not updated. I’ve fixed that for a future update, sorry about that.

If you’re using the training dummy and the Spriggan has other abilities enabled (such as Summon Vine) I think what’s happening is the Spriggan doesn’t have room to use the alternate ability, and stops attacking.
I’ll see about having the dummy moved, but in the meantime you can use a dummy in a different zone.
I did a bit of testing on this just now and didn’t see any unusual behavior. I’m inclined to agree with Pyrotics-- are you sure that you’re not picking up Runes or Glyphs with the crafting material vacuum function? Runes and Glyphs go directly to the crafting items tab of the inventory.
If you’re certain that you’re only picking up shards and the count of items does not match, please upload a log file from a game session where this happened. Thanks!

I tried this on a fresh character with no passives or skill nodes, and didn’t see this behavior when summoning a frenzy totem while wielding Tempest Maw. If you post a screenshot of all your skill trees and passive trees I can try to narrow it down.
