Hey Meddler, why is Ziggs the best champion in the game
I don't think he is objectively. Still one of my favourites though :)
Read moreFor my (fellow) nerds, I wanted to address two main things.
1. Defining Plat+ (Classification Accuracy Shrinking Sample Size)
TL;DR 1: Outlined below, we currently use a classification system (A) which we believe prioritizes accuracy, but does lower the sample size pool (ex: Plat+) by a small amount. The old system (B), which most sites use, inflates win rates and sample sizes - plain and simple, it's not acceptable to use a system that says a class (Plat+) has a 55% winrate on average. That would incorrectly mean that most builds have a positive win rate in Plat+. That skews the data way more than sample size. I'd try to remember that size of sample is not the be-all-end-all of accuracy.
Let's use this sample game:
Team 1 (W): Plat 4, Plat 4, Gold 1, Gold 1, Gold 1 | Team 2 (L): Gold 1, Gold 1, Gold 1, Gold 1, Gold 1
As a simple example, here are 2 classification strategies (among many). We currently use Cla...
Kudos for using Class A instead of Class B. IMO it's the right decision. I've always worried about third party websites not doing their homework and use Class B instead.
Thanks for the response, though personally I feel like you could lower the bar for which champions are considered to be in heavy need for a VGU. I mean champion quality skyrocketed towards the end of season 2 and a lot of champs aren't up to that standard yet.
So at least to me it feels like there are still tons of champs that could use an update, even if its not as dire as the previous cases.
We could, but VGUs come with the cost, and Champs that are in better shape have much higher player bases. With higher player bases there is a higher risk of alienating more players with a VGU, especially since its basically impossible to make 100% of the current mains happy with a VGU. As Champions begin to fall further behind new champ standards, and new champs come out taking away some of the mains of older champs, than the older champs that need VGUs player base begin to shrink. The smaller a Champs player base when it gets a VGU the less player pain and player disruption the VGU release causes. We have to factor all this into our VGU strategy.
Would you consider expanding VGU polls to include more than 5 champions then? It feels weird to see it being so "limited" while there still being so many champs need some reworks *looks at Kog, Corki, Udyr who are not even considered for polling*
The poll is not meant to encompass every champ that needs a VGU, and we won't only do VGUs for champs that win polls. We currently have a unannounced VGU in early development right now, for example. Like If Voli and Fiddle weren't basically tied in the last poll, we still would have done another VGU this year, independent of the poll.
Hopping in to say that my comment on stream was extremely hyperbolic. It was stupid for me to make a claim like that and I'm sorry.
U.GG IS A GREAT SITE and overall their data is good when you want to understand how strong champs are in relation to each other. My criticism comes from how the data gets sketchy when the sample size gets low (master/diamond+ games for some champs, day 1 patch data, etc.). That's what I SHOULD have been talking about in that clip instead of saying what I did.
Thanks alanliang for everything you and your team do for the community.
I can't believe Riot thinks the Mecha Kingdoms battle pass was too generous. I got burned out playing LoL trying to optimize my pass and I still only got to 14/20 milestones. Never gonna buy again while those passes are so harsh.
Fair call out on milestones. Those were high in Mecha Kingdoms (20 points), even if other things were less demanding. We went back to the lower milestone mission demands for Galaxies (15 points) and don't plan on raising them again for upcoming events.
I hope Bald Guy is okay.
it's okay guys, joe injected himself with lysol this morning so he's doing great thisisajokedonotdothat
When will there be a TFT galaxy that stops me from rerolling 18 times for no apparent reason when I could have leveled up
I wish, I fall into that pit all the time myself with constant self justification about how I just need slightly more board presence then I'll save next round...
is battle academia going to come back this year or was that a one time skin line? i really liked it and i hope we can get more skins for it!
Probably is the strongest answer I can give you at the moment. It's a skinline that seemed to click with a fair number of players, though response wasn't quite as strong as things like Star Guardian or High Noon have been recently. Likely we bring it back at some point as a result, not confirmed yet though.
If you only consider the prestige skin for your math and not the other rewards too, you still end up punishing who grinds more. They just added 60 points to the missions without addressing the per-match gains.
This problem needs a more holistic overhaul (something that Meddler alluded to in the article) that we are aiming to ship this year.
Kinda sad that they confirm that they'll be focusing on new champs for the rest of the year. I mean they hinted at it in the previous video, but this time they did say that this is their plan for the rest of the year.
2 VGUs for the whole year is really not a lot, I hope they return to making more in the next one :(
It's unlikely we will get to a place where we are doing lots of VGUs again. It's possible of course, if suddenly we reach a point where we have a giant list of champs in need of VGUs, like we did a couple years ago. The reason we started reducing VGUs is that we got to a point where the VGU list wasn't that long, and the Champs on the list don't need it as bad. We think VGU's are a exciting product that many players also find exciting and we don't want to get to a point where we basically "Catch up" on all the champs that need VGUs and basically stop doing them. At the pace we were going in the past we would have reached that point fairly quickly and then that would kind of be the end of VGUs. We have decided instead to reduce the pace of VGUs so that we still release them, but we don't catch up. At the current pace I predict we may not ever reach the end of the list, since overtime new champs will probably find there way on to the list. This way there will always be VGUs to look ...

The Fast 4 will be the best one.
Hey is this change live already or will it ship with the next patch?
Still a few patches away, we're starting work on it now.
it's more of the precedent of not enjoying most VGUs so far, especially with juggernauts my favorite class, makes me very wary of this champion I main more than one I just play occasionally. Used to main Taric now I hate him, played swain for fun now I dont care for him, so on. To your credit though I think fiddlesticks was top notch and I'm coming to like mordekaiser more than I did on his relaunch.
I just dont like things changing, I guess
Fair. I personally feel Voli's changes are similar to Morde and Fiddles, in terms of same sort of playstyle with details different some modernization. Hope he still delivers what you're after from him.
I say A - feel - ee - os, probably not quite accurate. I definitely butchered the pronounciation of that name (and some others) to make that clue!
Can confirm, is incorrect.
It's A-fell-ee-os.
I heard Interlocutioner say it about 50 times.
Hope you're holding up well in these times.
1) Has the new balance framework made the LoL team more data driven than informed? I remember Riot emphasizing how important it is to be data informed rather than driven.
2) Thoughts on the current cadence of change for the game? Ever since the "no mid-season" changes stance, the game has seeing very little big overhauls that it is known for. Getting pretty stale.
Thank you. I don't like the whole working from home thing, but I certainly don't have any real cause to complain compared to what some people are dealing with. Hope you're doing well given the circumstances too.
1 - Data informed is still our stance. The new balance framework is certainly a shift though towards a position where we're much more confident building stronger rules using data because of how long League's been running and how clear it now is what unacceptable balance states look like.
2 - I think the current level of change is overall a good one. It's lower than I'd personally prefer as a player, and lower than some segments of the playerbase, particularly in regions like NA that are more change favoring than others, would like. On the other hand we're also not seeing the significant pain and upheaval that our previous rate of change created for a lot of other players. It's a reasonable compromise in my eyes as a result. I do think our preseasons could p...
Read moredespite what people think I think s10 is one of the more diverse metas we've had in a while. I'm pretty content with the game top lane, just wish kalista didn't counter me so hard lol
p.s cancel volibear vgu
Yeah, Kalista's been a long running challenge for us alas.
What don't you like about the Volibear VGU?
If what you're looking for is balance/gameplay specific stuff only these posts won't be too interesting a lot of the time. RiotScruffy and I are alternating weeks between Quick Gameplay thoughts on his part (balance/gameplay heavy) and Quick LoL thoughts from me (some gameplay still at times, but more of a focus on other topics).
Great f**king change on removing flex queue restrictions
Yeah, in retrospect while the problem those were there to solve is real the solution wasn't the best one. Optimistic this works out quite a bit better.
