while this doesn't seem super exploitable, if you find something in the future send it to us in private 👍
in any case, we're taking a look at it.

Mace does 50 dmg against tier 3, then 51, 52 ,53 against tier 2, 1, 0. You are telling me a mace does 6% more damage against no armour versus plate armour? WHAT!? The damage in real life would be exorbitantly higher. like 10x higher. Shitty design.

blunt weapons are set up in a way where they have a 'flat' damage model. You don't get much more damage against lighter armor, but what you do get is a weapon that can easily 2-shot enemies. For example, poleaxe alt mode can 2 shot with a headshot and a hit to the chest, whereas a greatsword won't.

I don't know where you got the assumption this is a realistic game. If we were making a simulator, this would be bad design, sure. Instead we're making a game that has some depth in what gear and playstyle you can use, and a competitive/skill-based focus.

Imagine playing CS:GO and your opponent buys armor, now that smg/pistol/shotgun you have won't do any damage because pistol rounds and buckshot don't penetrate armor IRL. That'd be terrible right? Now go play Escape From Tarkov and that's a game designed around that realism, and it works pretty well.

i wouldn't compare it to the warhammer - warhammer is a headshot weapon, and has lower chest damage.

armor is not meant to be realistic in this game - adding armor will allow you 1-2 more mistakes before dying, but we're not going for 'rock-paper-scissors' gameplay where swords are useless against plate (like in reality).

freedom of expression is cool and all but please don't advocate for going in and trolling chinese servers because 'china bad'.

Today I was happily removing some heads without a care in the world when suddenly the BIG COMMANDER moved from my blind spot to the front with no warning and executed me.

He was so f**king huge it scared the shit out of me.

Also in another game I parried his attack and still lost hp. How do you beat him ? Chambering ?

Attrition. He's got chip damage so you just gotta gang up on him and hope for the best :D

Personally I'd say 3v3 is as small as you want to go in a teamfight - if you lose one teammate a 2v3 is recoverable, but being in a 1v2 usually means guaranteed death. That's why you don't see high profile tournaments running 2v2 formats. That being said, you can always go to the MCG and ask around on there, I'm sure people would be willing to provide some support! You can find a link to it from the official Mordhau discord, under the competitive hub section!

These are all very good points and reflect some of the thoughts some of us had internally post-launch after reviewing the situation in more detail. Mordhau is a game essentially built for slower, meaningful skirmishes consisting of smaller player counts, but was instead put into a large, chaotic battlefield. This makes for a bit of an identity crisis. As players back then in Chivalry's competitive scene we came mostly from playing these small scale 5v5-6v6 competitive fights and that's what we always found tons of fun. The large scale Team Objective (24-32p) battles were more of a thing we did to relax. When developing Mordhau, we started just with the combat, ignoring the game mode aspect. And then we kept ignoring it, because it was always problematic -- if we do what we got hooked on, how do we ensure we get the necessary popularity to survive? We attributed popularity to these large scale chaotic fights, whether justified or not. So we ended up going with a focus on these and a...

If that ever happens again, you can either votekick the player, or record and report them if you're playing on official servers, or both.

To votekick you'll want to do the following:

  • Press ~ twice to open up console.

  • Type playerlist and press enter.

  • You'll see a large list of everyone on the server. You can use page up and page down to scroll if you don't see the player on the list.

  • Once you find the player, you can use the 1-2 digit number before their name and steam ID to votekick them, votekick 32 for example.

  • After that, close console with ~ and just briefly explain in chat why you want to votekick the player.

If you want to report them, you can use software like shadowplay to capture the last 30/60/90/etc. seconds of gameplay. It has to be on official servers. You'll just want to make sure to press tab to show the server name in the scoreboard, ...

pm the clips to mods* but yeah.

I would say PM me the clip but i've now reached over 1k discord DMs, and I'll be honest I won't ever read all of them. There's just not enough time in the day to catch up

mostly done but shields are in a weird spot atm, no reason to add another before we figure out what to do with the shield mechanics

Adding to what others have said, you can either do a drag from neutral (i.e. looking straight at some guy and dragging from there) or start your attack as if it was an accel (for example, overhead attack while looking down) and then drag that attack out. I would say at top tier play neutral drags can be really scary, but you're better off learning to do them with attacks looking like an accel and then dragging them - this will give you the largest timing mixup and they should be much easier to pull off. Good luck and have fun!

kettle + bevor is weird as there are some clear visual indicators of t2/t3 helms. if you can see face, it's generally t2, so this would probably be a t2 helm. would be sick though!

Also we'd have to figure out how to not make this setup clip like hell, would most likely need to make a new kettle and a new bevor that work together nicely. Hopefully someday though!

Mayonnaise ? Nah too spicy

Instruments are something we could look into for sure, but it's not a huge priority atm. We're trying to bring back players with content and feature updates, SDK etc. so that's what we're focusing on first. Later on, I could see us adding some new ones!

Nice! The only critique I would have is the 'snout' of the bascinet. It looks like the helmet is flat on the face, and then the breathing section is slapped on. IRL pig-face/hounskull bascinets tend to have a seamless transition between the two parts, and the 'snout' tends to angle downwards as well. Aside from that, looks great! The armor looks like you would actually be able to move in it :D

thanks for the info, very enlightening 👍

I'm pretty sure we've solved that already. Some LA servers were going through the east coast and back, and vice versa. AFAIK that issue isn't happening any more.

No that's typically them on a HDD and they can't load the map in time, so they get kicked. We're looking into using .pak files which could theoretically speed up load times dramatically, but we're not sure if this approach is viable yet.

By idiotic looking attacks I'm talking about extreme drags and accels. Feints and morphs are alright imo, maybe we could have more types of attacks like those.

Or maybe the parry is too powerful ? Why not making the parry only block attacks incoming from on side ?

Every attack (including thrusts) have a different animation depending on if you start it from the right or the left. Making parrying only work if you mirror your opponents attack side could be a solution to add more complexity with a system fairly plausible in real life.

no to the parry suggestion because this would just raise the skill floor, and high level players would adapt easily. So what would happen is that new players stand no chance against anyone semi experienced, and high level players would just be slightly inconvenienced.

like always if you guys have some clips of what you think is ridiculous looking feel free to send em my way 👍

For me personally all the West Coast servers are trash. I shouldn't get the same ping from a Dallas server as a Seattle server when I'm in Oregon. Hope y'all can keep rolling out the fixes though, love the game.

I'm in Oregon and get ~30 ping to the Seattle servers though, so I'm not sure what's going on here.

It's already a thing but it's negated by being able to directly join a server. We enabled server browser visibility for officials when we were having matchmaking issues, but now that player numbers have dropped it makes sense to keep them joinable from there. IF we push a sale/free weekend I know that I will be pestering the team to put officials back to matchmaking only for the big modes.
