That really sounds like some network/internet issue.

Can your friends play with each other (ie without you) okay?

It is a folder used by the Windows installer app msiexec.exe for temporary installation files. I've recommended many people delete its contents (NOT the folder itself) with no repercussions.

But is it there, did you find it?

I'm not across bug reports for this game, but my impression it is is a very sporadic issue and the devs have not been able to reproduce it. So the short answer is that (so far as I know) we don't know why it happens!

If you are using any mods, try without I guess.

Try deleting the entire contacts of that C:\windows\installer\ folder ; not the folder itself, just its contents. They are all temporary files.

To see that folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

If it is not there however, try creating it manually.

I don't think I'll be able to help with this, but I believe there have been other such reports occasionally. So far as I recall the only way to rescue that save it to manually edit the save game file to make the empire visible again.

You might check the MP and Bug Report forums for other such reports.

Sorry to not be able to help you much on this occasion!

Those custom designs are held in user empire designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ forum. Does it actually successfully get updated when you do this?

What antivirus app do you use? Make sure stellaris.exe is in all its exceptions lists.

In our launcher, go into the Mods tab and the Playset tab.

Any mods involved?

That aside I have no real idea what could be causing this to you, I am sorry. If these are not Ironman campaigns, can you at least reload from autosaves?

As the only suported distro for this game is Ubuntu, I'm afraid this cannot be reported to the developers or worked on by them. Sorry about that!

Looks like we still have a permissions issue here. What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

stellaris.exe and dowser.exe (in the Steam Stellaris folder)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2022.14/paradox launcher.exe (or whatever version is now latest there)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that doesn't help, also set each of those .exe files (EXCEPT stellaris.exe !) to run as the Windows Admin user.

Then the game should run from Steam/our launcher, and enable all the DLCs.

Garr Incorporated said: Could it be because of some weird way the launcher interacts with Steam being installed in a drive different from C:? I keep thinking about this being a thing despite it being very unlikely. Wish I could easily test it out without literally removing everything.
That is a normal situation; I have the launcher on C: and the game on D: and it works fine.

Garr Incorporated said: That launcher, as before, doesn't see Stellaris.
That is expected; standalone mode is meant for users who don't want to use Steam, so it does not see your Steam installation. We're trying to diagnose and fix your launcher issue here which is unrelated to that situation.

As the launcher has run, there should be a cpatch.log now?

Firstly, that message is misleading, you probably haven't really been logged in elsewhere. It's just a generic guess as to what the connection problem might be.

Are you having any general Internet slowness or unreliability?

Is this just while playing solo, or in MP too or only?

Right click on the .exe , properties, compatibility. Tick the "run as Admin" box, untick everything else, Apply and exit that dialog.

I don't know how it works but is disabling it enough to make sure it is not affecting the game? Or might it have to be uninstalled entirely?

That aside I'm a little short of ideas on this one, I see nothing here to cause this to you. Is this the same computer and Stellaris installation you had previously? If so it's worth deleting the Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ folder (aside from any valued saved games) so the recent game version can write the caches again. And unload GeForce Experience before starting the game.

This is a weird one, we really have nothing to go on! What happens if you set bootstrapper-v2.exe to run as the Windows Admin user then run it manually?

In what game please?

Those logs look okay, but was there no cpatch.log in the same place?

Does this file physically exist?
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2022.14/paradox launcher.exe

If so, what happens if you run in manually from File Explorer?

From what you say here, the issue is with the launcher and not the game.

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.
