This was actually supposed to have been fixed last week. Can you check if you've got an update for the app/Windows pending? The problem wasn't actually with our game but how the app read ownership and if it's not updated, it may not work. I'll also let our Nvidia contact person know so they can double check on their e... Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user empire designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

Delete the game's Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt files. The launcher and game will recreate them at default settings.

Good luck!

That is not good; it implies there's something wrong deep in Windows somewhere.

Please try this Windows repair tool

The game is failing to find the AMD video driver or card in DirectX. I see that driver is not quite up to date, so let's do a clean update and reinstall of it:

- uninstall it with this tool https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Clean-Uninstall-Utility.aspx
- reboot
- install the very latest (I think Nov or Dev 2023) from here http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
- reboot again

Good luck!

Description
[3.10.4 Beta] - Commanders die quickly to orbital bombardment, but not ground combat

Game Version
[3.10.4 Beta]

What version do you use?
Paradox Launcher

What expansions do you have installed?
Utopia, Distant Stars, Ancient Relics, Federations

Do you have mods enabled?
No

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
I fought ground combats in a war with my stack of ~20 assault armies led by a commander and they didn't die during about a month of ground combat. However, I then landed those armies on a friendly planet, which after a few months of losing the war came under bombardment. The leader died within a week. Enemy transports eventually then arrived in the system. I hired a new leader for the army as they neared the planet. The leader died from bombardment before the enemy armies landed.

Let's concentrate on solo play as tests are easier. After one of these crashes can you restart the game, load up that save, and carry on? Or do you need to wait a while or reboot before you can play it again?

DO you see fps over 60 in the game now?

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 30 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

This is probably to do with your Windows User Documents folder being on OneDrive (ie MS's cloud servers). That ought to work in general, but it requires OD to be running all the time, to be syncing perfectly, and you to be online all the time.

If you didn't actually want your documents held on the MS cloud, you can change the Windows settings accordingly. Right click on Documents in the left column of File Explorer, just under This PC there. Go to properties, location - that's where you can change it to point to the old default location C:/users/{userName}/Documents

If however you DO want your documents stored up there, let us know and we'll look into this further with you.

All the best!

We don't officially support proton or wine installations I'm afraid. Just the native game on Linux.

Can you 100% verify that please? It is the most common case of won't-start problems with this game on Linux right now.

Setting the refresh rate to 60 ought to limit the fps to 60 also. How you are getting to 600 I cannot understand - is perhaps GeForce Experience running? If so it may be overriding the settings we did before.

And, as your Windows desktop is 60hz you are okay to turn Vsync on for this game again. That really should limit it!

We see temps up to 77c there, perilously close to the 80c mark where things can start going seriously wrong. We need to get that down!

We see some crashes in stellaris.exe in that dxdiag, so it is a little surprising there is no exceptions log.

After. a crash, can you reload and play on? Or do you need to wait or reboot?

What fps do you see in the game before it crashes? Anything over 60?

Right-click on stellaris.exe, properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullscreen optimizations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply, and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select the fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Then test with a new unmodded galaxy, NOT any existing one.

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

I know very little about consoles, but if you can retain or copy that save game files somewhere, then try this:

- uninstall the game from the XBox

- clear the XBox cache and game files (save game data)

That's because it doesn't need it - only the Steam edition does so it can play with non-Steam users.

If you are playing against Steam users, they need to select the cross-store option - you are already on it.

Almost certainly not - uncorrupting any computer file is like unscrambling an egg! If the incident happened while the save was being written out, it will be half updated and half not.

You could ask the good folks in User Mods to look into it, they probably know more about save file structure than anyone outside the devs.

Sorry for that happening to you!
