Why can you not run 2.8.1 , I'm sorry?

Please try this:

- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

Note that you can run stellaris.exe directly from Windows Explorer, which bypasses the launcher.

That looks like Windows sound is coming out of Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio(SST)) channel, is that right?

If so, uninstall that RealTek audio driver, and reboot. Windows will detect the hardware with no driver and offer one; accept that and see if it helps. I'm hoping it'll pick a different version of that driver, or at least that the reinstall will fix some problem in that area.

So updating to 11.2.3 appeared to fix the problem in fullScreen (only), but you've reverted to Catalina anyway, is that right? It's now back to exactly like it was originally here?

prismaticmarcus said: i'm having the same problem i.e. no audio from stellaris. i haven't played for a few days and the only change i've noticed is that steam's updated itself. pc audio is fine and other games' audio is fine.
Other similar games like CK2 and EU4 and HOI4?

Can I see your files too please?

I don't know why that would be, but the nVidia driver is definitely the problem here! Please contact nVidia support to get past that (IMO false) error.

To be honest it's not something I've tried or looked into until now. Certainly searching for Paradox launcher gets lots of hits.

Looking at the screenshots you sent in more closely, the file patches there are weird - instead of the usual slashes between folders you have a Yen symbol. Any idea why that might be, is there something unusual in this Windows setup?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

This should be the right one:
NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce Game Ready Driver WHQL
AFAIK they dont' discriminate between sub-versions of Windows 10?

I don't know then. Have you tried searching the registry for it?

In Task manager-processes do you see any of these?

msiexec.exe
cefprocess.exe
dowser.exe
bootstrapper-v2.exe
paradox launcher.exe

I see you have a UI overhaul mod active. Does this happen when there are no mods at all in use?

imax9000 said: Assumed? What? You guys don't have one lousy test machine to actually, you know, test it?
We didn't need to test it as it appeared to come good without us changing anything. My assumption was that was due to something Apple fixed.

You can try using Ccleaner or Revo Uninstaller to remove the old launcher installation.

We saw quite a bit of this in several similar games when Catalina was released, but this is the first such report I've seen for months. I had assumed that Apple fixed their openGL issues at some point. Conceivably it's related to running on an Intel video system, which is not supported hardware for this game under any OS.

What MacOS are you on?

Does it happen at all resolutions in that system.log above, say, 1024 768 ?

Let's try forcing an update of the launcher.

Download the installer package for Windows: https://forumcontent.paradoxplaza.com/emailsignatures/2021.1-win-prod.zip

Unpack the file you just downloaded and place the three files in the Steam folder for the game you're having issues with. If asked if you want to replace already existing files click "yes" - that's a sign you are in the right place!

Then :
- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox... Read more

Can you please attach the save game that this is affecting (or all of them if there are more)? You can find them in:
\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\save games

Great, you can move those files back again now if you wish.

All the best!

Go to the Documents/paradox/stellaris/ folder, move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races. Then delete that whole folder, does that help the error?

Are you playing from the Steam client or the standalone Paradox client (aka launcher v1)?

That Documents location looks okay, so the issue pretty much has to be antivirus. Place the attached userdir.txt file in the Steam folder where stellaris.exe is . It tells the game to write the user files and logs right there, instead of under Documents. Then exit the Steam app entirely and run stellaris.exe manually from File Explorer. Does the game start up that way, or what happens?
