Here's the process in case you want to try it:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- exit the Steam app entirely
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the SteamApps folder
- run steam.exe to rebuild all that
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

Good luck!

Has this game ever worked on this machine? Or never yet?

Are these other Paradox game that work similar games to this one, like EU4 or HOI4?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log .

I don't see our launcher in that screenshot at all, I suspect we are talking past each other here! When you say "back to the launcher" do you perhaps mean the Steam client, or the Windows desktop?

When that happens do you find the first two steps you mentioned above rectify the situation, even for a while?

You exit Steam entirely, and run stellaris.exe directly from Windows Explorer. You see that screenshot above which then disappears, and then you see the launcher? Is that right?

Can we maybe see a movie of that? Because as I say running stellaris.exe does not trigger the launcher, at all.

I don't know why you have this problem, I see mods update in the launcher for various games all the time.

Are you on launcher 2021.1 or some earlier version?

Sorry, I should have said - this was via GFN also? If so, it's hard to see why you are having such trouble with one game and not the other - you are using the same installation of the same launcher in both cases.

No, it would be:
"D:/Steam Library/steamapps/common/Stellaris"
if that is where stellaris.exe is.

System.log won’t show any errors. Are you saying that any supported resolution shows the same sort of display issues as before, with cut-off segments etc?

if so I frankly have no idea how this is still affecting you, but apparently no one else any more.

Have you done clean reinstalls of these games since going to the latest MacOS?

Don’t use the variable name. You need to put in the full file path exactly as displayed in Windows Explorer, starting with C:/ etc.

The last update to Stellaris was 2.8.1 in November. The latest client 2021.1 was released on February 12. When or how such things get applied to what GFN serve up to you I do not know, I'm sorry.

The mod registry is an old file no longer used. I just like to clear it out if it is still left there. The sqlite file does that job now.

To get the launcher to use that same folder, you need to edit launcher-settings.json file there. Change the gameDataPath line to point to the Steam folder where stellaris.exe is.

I don't understand how it can return to the launcher, as the launcher is not involved when you run stellaris.exe directly ... ?!? The launcher is completely unloaded at this point, is that right?

This is when the game is set to 1792 x 1120 , is that right? I think the problem is that neither of these resolutions:
Desktop Resolution: 1792 x 1120
"fullscreen_resolution"={
value="1536x960"
Are listed in the supported ones in that system.log. I think any of them in there from 1280 x 800 upwards will probably work for you.

What launcher version do you see? Current is 2021.1

And what antivirus do you use?

Pushka_Pushkin said: And I state one more time - it worked flawlessly before Friday, so it's clearly a problem, that's connected to Launcher update.
Our launcher did not get a new update on Friday. Are you theorising that it was deployed on GFN for the first time then? Mind you if so and it caused this problem to every GFN player we'd be flooded with similar complaints for every game .... !

Your settings and empires are still in your Documents folder. If you move them to under the Steam/stellaris/ folder, you'll have access to them again.

The launcher in your OP screenshot here is on 2020.11 and has an orange dot meaning an update has been applied. If you exit and restart that launcher there it should then be updated to 2021.1 .

However the game syncing updates to the Steam cloud is nothing to do with the launcher, which at that point is completely unloaded. It is purely between the Steam client and the Steam cloud , and happens when the game is exited.

Now with GFN (which I don't have and have never seen live), what happens when you exit the game ? Are you on a desktop or do you exit the GFN session entirely? I ask because if GFN kill the session before the game can sync up the cloud saves, that would explain what you are seeing.

SchfiftyFive55 said: I am having a crash problem as well. Same time 12.19 each time I load. Here is my log. Hellllp! lol Near I can tell is the game sends a command to shutdown but I cannot figure out why. Edit: I dont use AV of any kind but I did add an exception to windows defender and firewall as instructed. Game/launcher/gfx all latest v.
The OP here has a problem starting a new game or creating a new empire. But that doesn't sound like your problem at all, is that right? Your issue is when loading an existing save, is that right?
