We're looking to ship a hotfix to revert this ASAP. Sorry that you've had to deal with this!

Phoenix's flash is now garbage. Unlike Breach's flash, his flash traveled a short distance and blinded much quicker, reliable for self-fragging. Now his flash travels a fk ton of distance there's no way Phoenix can flash for himself anymore

Here is the video:

We didn’t plan any design functionality changes or nerfs to Phoenix flash this patch - this looks very odd to me. We don’t work directly with the KR team on these videos so they may have lacked context here when recording this. I’m currently trying to track down exactly what’s going on here, bear with us and we’ll have more info for you all ASAP.

edit: working on a hotfix to revert this now. Sorry for all of this!

Riot took a week off - next patch should be bigger and back to normal. We’ve had a few sparse patches in a row due to wanting to tread lightly before KJ release and folks taking some time off after launch, excited to get back into it now that we’re all rested up though!

We agree and are already working on some clarity improvements here!

It's not water or ice! Lots of people think Sage is a waterbender - she isn't.

I hope this doesn't come across negatively as it's purely curiosity from my end, but why do you guys leave traces of older character concepts like Shatter, Joules and Crusader who were scrapped or alchemized into other characters in the files? I would assume they're useless clutter that don't need to be present in the shipped package. Is there a reason to leave them there as other files depend on them (code or otherwise), or is it just a matter of a low priority clean-up task? I'm aware Valorant isn't the only game that does this of course, I just thought to ask it here.

I’m honestly not sure, I’m not a designer or engineer so I don’t actually work in game code.

I can confirm Joules is long gone. She lives on in aspects of Sova and Jett.

Any news on fixing the UI bug that makes you immune to Phoenix and Breach's flash? I feel like that's more important before buffing the flash really

Different departments here - QA’s looking at that bug, but the designers/insights folks who comprise the balance team are still working on game balance in tandem.

Shes not newer though. Morello said she has been in the game and tested even before breach was. Granted they may have redone her icons though.

Her kit isn’t newer, but her icons definitely are.

Didnt they say a Breach tweak/buff/rework was coming like, 2 weeks ago?

Yup, Breach is still on the buff list, we’re just still iterating on changes we want to be confident in to ship. It’s become a broader conversation around initiator-class utility, Breach is just the poster boy for that at the moment.

As a quick reminder - game devs are specialized. There are only a handful (like literally 1-3) people who work on Valorant monetization, so the rest of the team just doesn’t have much to add on topics like this because we weren’t involved in the process or can’t speak to the skill set required to do so.

Hey. I’m one of those people - I work on gameplay content like agents and maps as well as game balance. I’m here, but I didn’t work on this stuff so I’m not really qualified to talk about it. I’m sure lots of other Rioters on the team see comments like this and feel the same way.

I hope the response from /u/RiotSWAGGERNAU7 gives you some solace at least.

Pretty much, yeah. You can also kill it with things like brimstone ult or raze grenades, so you don’t always need line of sight to kill it, and you can see its location on the minimap. It has 150 health so it dies quickly if you reach it.

I’m confused. Does killjoys ult stop you from moving or does it just disable your abilities and weapons but still let you run?

If the debuff actually manages to hit you, you’re slowed heavily for the duration of the debuff effect on top of not being able to use abilities or weapons. So you can still move, but not much.

Basically, you really don’t want to be in the radius when it goes off.

No need to apologize, my post seems a bit strongly worded in hindsight - I think I'm just extra sensitive to this wording right now with all the healing conversations going on, haha. Healing is just a value we have in the game, just like smokes, damaging abilities, blinds, etc. People tend to latch onto it as a role because it's a role in other games, but it's just an output in ours!

They will then watch team comps and if comps are 5 of the same role then they will work hard to fix it.

It's important to call out here that "healing" is not a role - "healing" is just an output (something that characters can do) in Valorant. Our roles are Duelist, Initiator, Controller, and Sentinel, which are all focused on how players initiate engagements and fight over territory. "Healer" is not a role, but we will probably release agents in the future that can heal allies - it's not great that Sage is the only one that can do this right now. That is not the same as to say we want an entire "healer" class - we want agents who heal to do so because it allows them to perform their role, NOT have healing define their role. If that makes sense.

Yup! And even if it does see you you can still shoot it and destroy it before it explodes.

You can destroy it, yup. When you close, it's stealthed like a cypher trap and you can shoot it to destroy it.

Killjoys often place swarm nades on the bomb post-plant, but once players get used to that, they check for nades before going for a defuse - they're easy to kill if you're looking for them.
