Well, I guess it's unsurprising that as the ck3.exe from Gamepass works there, it also works when placed in the Steam folder. The question is why doesn't the Steam ck3.exe !

I'm not fully across what differences there are between the two builds, but fundamentally they have the same system and Windows requirements of course.

Alablm said: I notice the gamepass launcher version is 2022.9-SE, where steam is 2022-13. Is it possible to downgrade the steam launcher to see if its somehow related?
When the game starts the launcher is unloaded, so I doubt that is the cause of your problem.

You didn't explicitly say what happened when you ran ck3.exe directly from file explorer, but if that also crashed on launch then this cannot be a launcher problem as it is simply not in use. Why it would crash but the MS version not is hard to understand!

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Epic app entirely
- run EpicGamesLauncher.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the Epic client

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

Note that you can run eu4.exe directly from File Explorer, which bypasses the launcher.

Please delete the ~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive/ folder. To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and paste in ~/Library/Application Support/ . Then run the game from the PLAY Button in Steam, to reinstall the launcher.

If that does not get the launcher running, we will need these files from that same folder:

Attach ALL .log files Found here ~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If those don't help:

Glomp said: There appears to be no common factor between crashes, other than growing instability over time and auto-saves triggering it. I can restart the application and play on from the last valid save, however it'll just crash again after a period. Looking through previous threads this does seem to be a common problem, so perhaps a bug report would be best.
Fair enough, please go ahead with that!

Having checked I see this game tells you if a save is Ironman, but not specifically if it is achievement-worthy or not, unfortunately.

I know nothing about the content of save game files, I'm sorry. User Mods may be able to help with that. What I can say is that if you rename them to end in .zip you can then unzip them to get the plain text files that make them up.

Do you have a saved game or a sequence of actions in the game that reliably triggers the problem? If so best to make a Bug Report on this one I think.

Your problem reads like an issue with Steam cloud sync, not the game as such. Steam only syncs cloud games up to the cloud when you exit the game, not as you play - if that process did not complete on PC2 before you loaded the save on PC1, exactly what you describe will occur.

I don't know what could cause this to you either. Does that save show as achivements being gettable still?

I see you have some BlueScreen events showing there, which are always Windows, driver or hardware problems. Next time you get one (whether associated with this game or not) record the text on that screen, which will help point to the problem area.

Meantime Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Any better?

I don't have any channel to them I'm afraid - after all I'm an external contractor, not PDX staff as such.

As I said, recent patches are more fussy in requiring those hardware minimums be met, in particular the video system one. The published requirements never changed though.

I'm afraid the game is unsupported on any Intel video system under Linux:

Graphics: OpenGL 4.5 (GeForce 600/AMD Radeon 7700 or higher) with 1GB of video RAM

I guess make sure your Intel driver is up to date, and I think Mesa are up to 22.x now.

If those don't help, please seek a refund from where you bought the game.

Sorry for the bad news!

The 1603/1605 errors we see there are typically a previous other installation stuck, or a problem in the Windows update/install processes.

If you see msiexec running in Task manager-processes, kill it and try this launcher install again please.

Otherwise run the Update app in Windows, does it load okay, find anything to apply - whether a patch, update? If so do that and reboot, then try this launcher install again please.

If still no good, do you see Paradox Launcher v2 in the Windows Control Panel to uninstall? If so does it uninstall cleanly, or get an error doing that? You can use this MS tool to clear the stuck install/uninstall:

Dimillian said: Could we get more information on that? Because M1 / M2 is the way forward, and if Paradox don't officially support it, it's like Paradox stop supporting macOS platform.
I'm not sure what kind of more information you might be after, but the status is the same now as when I wrote that last week.

The game is supported on Macs that meet the published requirements:
  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-7820HQ
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD® Radeon™ PRO 560 (4 GB)
While I have no inside info... Read more

Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods in BOTH the Steam Workshop and the Paradox mod site mods.paradoxplaza.com
- delete the folder Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/mod/
- delete the file Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/mods_registry.json (if present)
- delete the file Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/launcher-v2.sqlite (if present)
- run the game up and check the launcher is okay with no mod or other errors
- subscribe to a few mods

- run the game up and see if those mods are now available to you.

I hope that does it for you!
