DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

I did get this from one affected Gamepass user:

In case anyone else had issues when they purchased the season pass from gamepass.
The season pass shows no downloads and the dlc by itself looks like you need to purchase it.
Click the dlc and click the purchase.
It’ll change and say you own this already.
Click the same box that now says you own this already and it’ll ask you to download it.
Do the download and boom it finally adds
You need to do it for both northern and RC downloads.

Please let us know if that helps you!

FYI the only supported distro is Ubuntu 20.04 or better, so we may or may not be able to help you with this here.

What happens if you run ./ck3 from a terminal command line? What output do you see when it crashes?

And check your nVidia driver is the latest available

I'm not sure when that happened exactly, but it is routine for the minimum required Ubuntu version to be regularly updated for our games, as older ones fall out of support.

We have one more shot; I'm afraid this is a bit of work, but please delete this list of files (about 50 in total)

That 0xc00007b Windows error is almost always caused by a missing or bad Microsoft module, usually Visual C++.

In the Windows control panel uninstall ALL instances of VC++ 2010 and 2015/17/19/22 - there may be several of each. No need to touch any others.

Then Install these Microsoft modules:

What actual CPU and GPU temperatures are you seeing as the problem is evident in the game?

As the problem happens when you run eu4.exe directly, the issue is nothing to do with the launcher.

When you ran eu4.exe manually was any Windows error shown?

Lightningbolt1226 said: So, I've had a go at this but I can't seem to make this work either. The descriptor can't find the unzipped file and that completely stops CK3 from being able to open. This is probably as a result of me not being any good with manual mod installation, any tips?
I myself have never done this as I don't use mods, and indeed have no chance to play this game anyway.

Please ask for help from the folks in that thread who found the workaround.

Good luck!

Has this game ever worked on this machine? Or never yet?

When you ran eu4.exe manually was any Windows error shown?

ryarovyk said: but for some reason, logs and settings.txt are not in the folder:
settings.txt ought to be in the same folder as pdx_settings.txt . There should also be a /logs/ folder there - is there not?

What antivirus do you use? Some need extra steps.

When you run this game from the PLAY button in Steam, it automatically runs our launcher. You don't need to find its .exe file.

How do you copy a file in Windows, are you asking?

Right click on it in File Explorer, copy. Go to a different folder, right click in there, paste.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

That will do it for you, I am sure!

Some graphics/DirectX errors in there. If you choose openGL in the launcher game settings menu, do you still get this crash?

And is it repeatable from any particular save game file? That is, if you load it again after a crash does it crash again in the same place? or carry on for a while?

Right click on eu4.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode.

Edit settings.txt as follows:
refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no

vsync=no
THEN unload GeForce Experience if running, and try the game from the Steam PLAY button.

Is that any better?

It is up to the nVidia apps to make that decision, the game has no influence over what GPU it uses. Has this always happened with this game? Or it used to be okay up to some point?

That first screenshot shows the openGL choice, but this game uses DirectX 9 not openGL.

The save file will be half updated and half old, which is to say irredeemably corrupted. There is no possible way to fix that, I am sorry.

In future I'd suggest you manually make a copy of your Ironman saves, either just before or just after each play session.
