Some mod errors in that error log: unsubscribe from ALL mods in the Steam Workshop for this game, and delete the documents/paradox/stellaris/mod/ folder.

Is there a settings.txt file in the same place as pdx_setting.txt is?

And in the logs folder is there an exceptions.log?

Click on File up the top left, then export to a text file.

That would tend to point to the newer Windows VC++ modules that those older games don't need, but that error doesn't match what I'd normally see for that situation.

Does this Windows repair tool find anything to fix?

Well it is definitely a vide-related issue, but i see no clues in those files as to exactly what.

Let's try a clean reinstall of nVidia:

- uninstal that driver and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install that latest one by fresh download
Download Drivers | NVIDIA - reboot again

Good luck with that!

This is a strange one, we still have nothing anywhere that points us to what the problem might be.

Please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here, thanks.

Sorry to have been unclear, I'm not saying you should manually run those files as that can never work. Rather, go into their properties-compatibility and set them to run as Admin all the time, then just launch the game from PLAY in Steam as normal.

I don't know, I'm sorry, I've never used (or even noticed!) that setting before. I tried several possibilities like 0, 1, verbose, enable, yes but nothing worked. I did find it was case-sensitive as 'disabled' didn't work.
Unfortunately I don't have a back channel to the CK3 devs to drill down on that. I might be able to ask Paradox next week.

Indeed, we cannot help with modded games here. Your best bet is the User Mods forum, attach the problem save game file to a new thread there.

Good luck with that!

In the game launcher please set Display mode to windowed.

Does that help?

I have not seen that Windows error before and don't really know what to do about it, I am sorry.

But if OneDrive has grabbed your Documents folder against your will, you should undo that as the game and launcher can have problems with it. Hopefully you can find good instructions online for that!

Please set all these files to run as the Windows Admin user:

ck3.exe (in the Steam CK3/binaries/ folder)
dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3/launcher/ folder)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.5.1/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

Good luck!

Hundreds of things! You can check the release notes for details, but I don't think that will help us here.

I suppose you could try deleting that file and see if it helps. But I still think this is an issue with the sound system in your Windows.

In that pdx_settimngs.txt can you please set
audio_debug_log_level to "Enabled"

Where exactly that is logged I'm not sure, hopefully in error.log but please check the /logs/ folder for other likely candidates.

So you see no Windows error when you do that? What exactly do you see? Does the game appear in Task manager-processes at all, or just the launcher?

In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless. THEN go here:

The latest supported Visual C++ downloads

This article lists the download links for the latest versions of Visual C++. support.microsoft.com support.microsoft.com And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

IF that doesn't help, Has the game ever run successfully on this computer? Or never?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

That should do it for you!

I take it that is the one the Intel drives. If so that is listed first in dxdiag so I expect that's where the game appears.

In that settings.txt we see adapter=1 , is that something you put in there?

In the launcher is a monitor selection option, what does that show?

You say this does not affect other games, but not even our similar ones like HOI4 and CK2? Because I'd expect them to behave the same as this one.

The game gets Windows error c06d007e but I cannot see what could cause that, Googling it does not give me any useful info on what it even means.

Do CK2 and EU4 run okay on this machine?

Starting to run out of ideas here, this is a one-off!

Does this affect any of our similar games like CK2, Stellaris, Eu4, Imperator?

Those logs look okay actually. What launcher version do you see? Current is 2021.5.1
