In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless.

IF that doesn't help, Has the game ever run successfully on this computer? Or never?

IF IT USED TO RUN:
Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, be... Read more

Please try this:

- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

Note that you can run stellaris.exe directly from Windows Explorer, which bypasses the launcher.

Has to be an installation or video driver issue, AFAICS. The minimum requirement under Linux is the HD 7870, so I'm afraid your HD 7770 is a little below that. Whether that's the cause I'm not sure.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/CK3/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.

Do the mod files end up in Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mod/ folder, or is it still empty after that process?

Did you also add the launcher to the Avast exceptions list?

Elven_Imperium said: I tried to follow that, but there's a small issue: There's no file named 'Mods_registry.json' shown in the folder.
That's fine, it's an old folder the current launcher versions do not use.

Steam, Windows 7, Game Version 2.8.1

Please start your own thread with full problem details and history, and the files I mention in post #2 here. Thanks.

What is your antivirus? Add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

You may need to add steam.exe and C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2020.16/paradox launcher.exe to that list.

If you are subscribing to that mod in the Steam workshop it is Steam that downloads it, not the launcher. However if you are getting it from the Paradox mod site, then it is indeed us doing the downloading. The only file necessary is a ugc_xxxxxxx.mod file.

FYI I subscribed to it in the Steam workshop and Steam downloaded it immediately, its ugc_ file is in the /mod/ folder. To all appearances it work as it changed the checksum in the main game menu.

In the launcher go into Manage mods, and hit "Reload installed mods" , does that do anything?

The next launcher version should be better in mod handling.

Is that one mod updated to work with the current Stellaris patch? Do other users of it have any problem? Have its files appeared under Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mod/ ?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' but... Read more

90c is absolutely a problem. This was just the GPU at that temp, right? Not the CPU?

Overheating can be caused by two things - an app pushing the CPU or GPU too hard, or a problem in the cooling system - dust blocking vents, faulty fans or sensors. This game is set to a modest 60hz refresh rate, so it's not the game doing this as such.

If you have any overclocking set up on this machine, try undoing it.

That aside, given it's a new machine I'm pretty sure you have a hardware fault since it's unlikely it has gathered much dust yet.

This list should cover it:

ck3.exe
dowser.exe
steam.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2020.16/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

You may find Avast has actually deleted or quarantined one or both of those last 2 files, check if they are physically present.

That's getting up there, but not quite at the levels that usually cause problems. It never ever gets to 80c or over?

I focus on this because your symptoms are very typical of overheating.

Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods
- delete the folder Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mod/
- delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mods_registry.json
- delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/launcher-v2.sqlite
- subscribe to a few mods
- run the game up and see if those mods are now available to you.

I hope that does it for you!

Those new screenshots are just the CPU I think. Overheating is more usually the GPU, what temps do you see there?
