So you can just be sitting on the main game menu, and you see the fps reading drop down then recover every few seconds, is that the case? Without you doing anything on the mouse or keyboard?

If so that's pretty bad, but it's hard to see what could be causing that!

Does it happen in fullScreen and windowed modes?

From what you say the likelihood is that the game crashed while writing out the save file, so it's probably corrupted and irrecoverable.

However go you Documents/paradox/ck3/ - if there is a last_save.ck3 in there that may still be loadable.

Good luck with that!

In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless.

IF that doesn't help, Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center

The launcher CAN preserve mod load order, but I believe that is implemented in some games and not others, according to the wishes of the developers of each game.

Anyway you do have a mod issue if you can play MP together unmodded. Try both enabling just one mod, test, enable another, test - you should be able to pin down which one is the problem that way.

That other thread you posted in say they only get the issue when scrolling with the mouse, not using the WASD keys. Do you find that too?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/CK3/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

FYI DLCs do not affect checksums at all. But any mods in use must be identical of course, even their load order may need to be the same.

Should I do the same?
Can't do any harm, if it doesn't help best to start your own thread in case it's not actually the same problem.

The thing is that the game itself has not changed between when you bought it and now. But you say it ran bad, then was okay, then ran bad again. So clearly something outside the game is causing this for you, something that changes in your system.

I've seen massive Windows updates downloading cause that kind of thing, but yours is up to date it seems.

I do see a crash in the nVidia software in that dxdiag so let's do a clean reinstall and update of that:
- uninstall the nVidia driver and all nVidia software
- reboot
- install the latest (Dec 2020) from here:

I've seen this with outdated AMD video drivers, please make sure yours is up to date:

The process I gave above will not affect your other games, as it does not delete the SteamApps folder.

Your Windows 7 has had no major updates applied since 2014. Our games are only ever tested on Windows that is fully patched up.

Please run the Windows Updater manually, apply everything it finds, and reboot. Keep doing that until it is fully up to date, which may take several iterations. Boring I know, but you have a lot of catching up to do!

You may need to then run those VC++ installers again after that.

Good luck!

That error seems like a bad installation. If you run a Steam Verify operation against the game does it find anything to fix?

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/CK3/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.

When you say "anymore", it was okay for a while before this happened? Is that right? Or it was like this right from the start?

Any mods involved?

What happens if you disable autosave, any different?

I see, than I think there is a problem in your Windows installation in the Xbox/MS store area, which I'm afraid I have no idea how to fix. Probably a clean reinstall or even reset of Windows would do it, but that's a lot to contemplate just to get a game going, I know!

The three files you mention above, plus steam.exe and ck3.exe , really should cover it.

Then it seems clearly an issue with his computer, local network or ISP. Lacking the ability to try different computers or networks I can't really see how to narrow it down further, I'm sorry. They definitely can't install the games on another machine elsewhere, say another friend or relative, as a test?

Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods
- delete the folder Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mod/
- delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mods_registry.json
- delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/launcher-v2.sqlite
- subscribe to a few mods
- run the game up and see if those mods are now available to you.

I hope that does it for you!
