70c is getting up there but not quite to the level when I'd typically see problems happen. It never ever gets to 80c?

Do you have any overclocking active?

If Afterburner is running when you play the game when the problem happens, can you try it with that utility unloaded please?

I now have at least 10 reports in the last few days of the launcher not running under Arch Linux, across several games. As the launcher didn't change there must have been some Arch change or update to trigger this - is anyone here aware of such a thing happening?

I'm not aware of a general issue like this, no. has it always been the case for you? Or it was okay up to some point?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/CK3/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log

This is looking more like a hardware problem in your case, so please attach a new dxdiag.txt , thanks.

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)

Mikesrevenge said: Perhaps is their a way to install mods without having to use the launcher to run them or are mods strictly tied to the launcher?
1. Find the file "dlc_load.json", located in Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/
2. Right click it and select Edit (this can be done in any text editor)
3. To enable mods, add them to the "enabled_mods" list

This is what your file should look like:

{
"disabled_dlcs":[],
"enabled_mods":["mod/ugc_1792575623.mod"]
}

You get those mod ugc_ filenames from the Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellar... Read more

I see those errors a lot at the moment, so I suspect they are cosmetic.

You should never download individual DLLs from random websites, as they are often infected by malware. You should only install them with the proper Microsoft utility as I list above.

I removed some unacceptable text from your post. Please don't be insulting when you post, it doesn't help and won't get your problem fixed faster.

Mikesrevenge said: The idea of having a separate launcher after buying a game from a service like steam that already has all the functionality needed for mods and dlc
FYI there always was a launcher for this game that handled enabling/disabling mods, they were never handled by Steam. The only difference is now is the launcher is a separate app with its own dev team, so only one installation handles all the games instead of eac... Read more

Well that's bizarre as the launcher has not changed for weeks. The game went to 1.2.2 a few days ago though, did it coincide with that? Unlikely though that would be to affect the launcher.

Or was there an OS update that might have done it? But the launcher runs fine on my Ubuntu 20.04 installation and it's fully up to date ..... strange!

Ah - there was a Steam update at about that time too! did it coincide with that perhaps?

Can you please attach here a copy of the problem game. I'd like to see whether it causes the problem on my Mac and/or Windows. Thanks.

You don't have a proper video driver installed for your nVidia card:
Card name: Základní grafický adaptér Microsoft
Manufacturer: (Standardní typy zobrazovacích jednotek)
Chip type: GeForce GTX 1660 Ti with Max-Q Design
Please install the latest one from here:
Download Drivers | NVIDIA then reboot.

All the best!

In that case this will need a code fix. I'm pretty sure I've asked a previous user to make a thread in Bug Reports on this; see if you can find that thread and add your save to it. If you can't spot it, just go ahead and make a new thread there.

Sorry for that problem!

So you mean the launcher does not run, is that right? the games themselves are okay?

Has it ever worked on this machine? Or never yet?

What exactly do you see when it tries to run?

Please attach here the launcher logs:
  • $XDG_DATA_HOME/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/logs/ (if $XDG_DATA_HOME is set)
  • ~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/logs/ (if $XDG_DATA_HOME is not set)

I make video of my problem : I add "paradox interactive" folder in my AV (eset nod32) exeption (i don't find ck3.exe on my computer, game pass ?).
MS lock down the gamepass folders very hard, they are almost impossible to access.

However if the computer has to be restarted, that begins to sound like a Windows or hardware problem.

Great! But do keep an eye on those temps, you don't want them to ever go over 80c.

I should have looked at your film before! I see that campaign has a huge empire, which is known to cause this kind of problem wth this game (and, interestingly, with its predecessor CK2). I take it you don't see this happen in a new campaign , just in that particular one?

In the game launcher please set Display mode to windowed.

IF that doesn't help, Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Kliwarrior said: Where is the better place to post this bug? As I told you, its affects all your titles (and I don't want to spam the threads with something that is probably the same bug )
It would have to be handled by each dev team separately, so you'd post in the Bug Reports forum of each affected game.

It may turn out to be an engine issue, but the devs will determine that and direct the issue appropriately.

Good luck!

I have also seen this happen when massive Windows updates are downloading in the background, is that a possibility?
