If you run EU4.exe by itself does that also fail?

If so, Has the game ever run OK on this computer? Or never?

IF NEVER:
Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

Please try this:

- exit the Steam app completely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run EU4 from the Steam PLAY button

I hope that works for you!

I see no reason for that in that dxdiag, although you may as well update that AMD driver:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

On my nVidia rig it takes about 1:40 with no mods, so comparable to what you see.

I think you'll find the launcher is in C:

Please try installing EU4 in C: also; while that should not be a problem it is worth the test I think. Do the process in post #2 above afterwards.

Good luck!

Have you moved your Windows User Documents folder somewhere else perhaps? The launcher can have problems if it's been moved to, say D: or whatever.

If you mean Clear User Directory, you are right - that button is not in the Stellaris launcher now. You can delete all the folders under documents/paradox/stellaris/ except /save games/ , that should have roughly the same effect.

No this is an unrelated issue on WIndows, due to your antivirus app getting in the way; add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

Wilhelm_Sun said: Thanks! Will try and see whether it works. Odd that before 1.29 things were doing reasonably well....
The game and its patches are not tested on unsupported hardware, of course. So essentially it was luck that it ran okay before 1.29; clearly there is some change in 1.29 that triggered this problem (on Macs only BTW).

Sorry that happened to you! But at least you know where you stand now.

There's a mod linked in that thread which will help. We don't' yet know if the devs will fix it, as noted Intel video systems are not supported hardware for this game.

And, my problem is not failed to running the game but just the game not properly quit.
I understand that; the question is why does it happen for you and not me or others?

What if you run the game from the Paradox client instead of Steam?

Do you have any other game that uses that same launcher: Imperator Rome, Planetfall, Prison Architect, EU4 ?

I have seen that with the new launcher, but only when the game failed to run. Not when the game has been properly quit. Hard to see why it is happening to you that way.

What antivirus app do you use?

I don't know how to fully disable oneDrive, I am sorry.

To redirect where the game stores its user files, including mods, place the attached userdir.txt file in the same folder a stellaris.exe - it tells the game to write the user files right there instead of under the Documents folder. If that works you can replace the dot in that file with any file path you prefer.

Liwei said: What is 10.15.1? Is it an updated version of the launcher? How do I see if it's available?
No, it's a MacOS version update.

Anyway glad you got there!

As I say we have had resolution issues under 10.15 ; and I have seen that in the past throw off the registration between apparent and actual cursor position in our games, especially EU4 in fact. That said this is the first time I've seen it in the launcher I think.

I assume the Enter or ESC keys don't work either?

If 10.15.1 is available to you maybe apply that and see if it helps.

Please reduce the game's resolution step by step until this goes away. In EU4 you should do this in the launcher, which will update pdx_settings.txt

I have hopes this will be fixed in 10.15.1 , if not our devs will have to look into it further.

I frankly don't know anything about mods themselves or what should or should not be in the .json files. Hard to understand why the same mod works for me but not you though.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- unsubscribe from ALL mods in the Steam workshop
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations,... Read more
