Has this always happened on this machine? Or it was okay up to some point?

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.

Indeed, the subscription system and payments are entirely handled by Steam, we have nothing to do with it and have no insight into it.

Good luck!

I don't know anything about what is in upcoming patches I'm afraid.

@grotaclas is this the AI issue I think you've mentioned before? Although I couldn't find it in this forum.

That tag would be in the Steam system online, I'd think, not on the downloaded file as such. There's be no point in it being on your machine, as the problem has already occurred by then!

If you have any joystick or game controller plugged in, unplug that before starting the game.

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

Steam Verify only checks files that Steam put there. Files that the launcher or game have written out cannot be checked by Steam, as it does not know they exist and doesn't know what they should be like anyway.

So yes, a clean reinstall is far more thorough than a verify.

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user empire designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folde... Read more

Hard to tell if it was the game or launcher reinstall that allowed you to run it once.

Can you do just one of those now, say the game reinstall above, WITHOUT doing the launcher reinstall, and see if it works then? Even if only once?

Are you on a current Steam version? I've seen recently that you need to do a manual check for any available Steam updates, they don't always happen automatically any more.

And, you haven't opted into the Steam beta programme, have you?

CreamyClimax said: I am still seeing my checksum as MODIFIED.
The only possible causes of that are modified files, a mod in use, a corrupted installation or the game is in debug mode.

So check for debug mode, if that is not the case do that clean reinstall yourself, In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again. The Steam uninstall only removes files that Steam put there, any mod files lying around in either folder structure need to be manually deleted. ... Read more

10 minutes is somewhat unusually long (it takes ~7 on mine), but on slower machines this game can take longer.

Did it eventually load perhaps?

If not, Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

No need to bump; I saw your post, I just didn't have anything useful to offer you. If as you say this is an issue with Steam or the launcher, or both, I couldn't come up with any way forward. We can't lodge this as a game bug as you are on an unsupported distro.

Why this game only (so far as I know) sometimes downloads the Windows version of the game is beyond me. I'd refer you to Steam support (since it is they who make that detection) but IMO the odds of them being very helpful are pretty low! But you could try I guess; they may at least be able to say "aha, your game lacks this tag in our download servers" or something like that.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Europa Universalis IV AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

**File Locations on Mac OS X**
The executable and DLC folder are in Users/USER/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Europa Universalis IV/
To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and type in ~/Library/ .
The user files (settings.txt, error logs, saved games, gfx, mods) are in /Users/USER/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/ .

It ought to run on an M1 Mac, even though strictly speaking that is not supported hardware for this game.

In fact that error looks like a Steam problem in some way:
steamloader.dylib' could not be loaded:

What happens if you run ck3.app directly from Finder? Same problem?

So I take it you do NOT see a game launcher? As that is where this would be set on a PC.

If there is no option to change language in the game, I would have thought it would use the PS5's language - but I guess that is not in French, from what you say?

If not, I think you'll need to contact PSN and swap the French copy for an English one.

This is probably to do with your Windows User Documents folder being on OneDrive (ie MS's cloud servers). That ought to work in general, but it requires OD to be running all the time, to be syncing perfectly, and you to be online all the time.

If you didn't actualy want your documens held on theMS cloud, you can change the Windows settings accordingly. Right click on Documents in the left column of File Explorer, just under This PC there. Go to properties, location - that's where you can change it to point to the old default location

I know nothing about how such things are done on consoles I'm afraid. When you start the game do you see a Paradox launcher like you do on PCs?

If so there's launcher and game language choices - quite separate.

Since you posted, the devs have released 1.11.3 which re-enables openGL on Macs. So please try that.

However that was the case in 1.10.2 also, so it seems likely you have an unrelated problem. Quite what I cannot see just yet!

The devs said the only difference between 1.11.2 and 1.11.3 was re-enabling openGL support on Macs. It is hard to see how that could have rendered saved games unplayable! Especially on Windows.

In what way are these saves broken? Were they started under any of the 1.11.x patches, or something earlier?

As to what game versions are on the Betas tab, Steam do limit how many we are allowed to put up there. So I guess given that minor change, it didn't seem worth using up a beta slot for it.
