I honestly don't know what is causing that to you. What launcher version do you see? Current is 2023.4.1

What if you exit Steam then run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user?

If that doesn't help, can you connect this machine to the internet via a VPN (or failing that a mobile phone hotspot) to see if that gets past it?

That is not the same problem - the OP here was not getting the JavaScript error you see. Please make your own new thread in future, thanks.

This may be a bug in the launcher, which seems to require MacOS 12 now. Were you at all thinking of updating MacOS? If so please do that and confirm for me that it helps, then I can report that to the developers.

That is not the same thing at all! The OP's launcher runs fine, their game won't start from it. Please start your own new thread in future, thanks.

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{us... Read more

You posted in a thread on an unrelated problem on a different OS, so I've moved you into your own thread.

Please delete the ~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive/ folder. To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and paste in ~/Library/Application Support/ . Then run the game from the PLAY Button in Steam, to reinstall the launcher.

If that does not get the launcher running, we will need these files from that same folder:

Attach ALL .log files Found here ~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

Meanwhile you can run the game from ck3.app directly from Finder.

Well, frankly, I'm not the best person for hardware support, been specialising in software for over 20 years. My colleague @jpd is very experienced in that area, otherwise if you have a trusted computer shop ...

If none of this comes to anything, I will say that we are seeing an issue very like this with Victoria3 - I've just transferred some threads on it to Bug Reports for that game. The commonality is a similar version of our game engine Clausewitz, plus the Jomini framework. However why several people get the issue with Vic3 but only you, or a very small number, with this game I can't see.

No, what's on other drives really shouldn't affect this issue.

There are two options - a Windows Reset and a full wipe and re-install. The first is less trouble but also less thorough ... I guesas your choice would depend on your level of experience in such procedures.

As far as hardware goes, swapping out is an option but I was thinking more of CPU and memory checks.

I'm running out of ideas on this one I'm afraid. Looking at the dxdiag again I see ck3.exe has had two completely unrelated crashes recorded in there, plus some AppHang events. Very unusual if this was a game problem or bug! That would more normally point to a Windows or hardware problem.

My instinct at this point is to suggest a Windows reset and a thorough hardware check; how do you feel about that idea?

That shows this is indeed a firewall issue somewhere - either within Windows, your internet router/modem, or your ISP.

If you use the Windows Defender firewall, eu4.exe needs to be in its Public and Private exception lists.

Otehrwise it's probably time to contact your ISP, especially if they supplied your modem.

The failure to verify that DLC is indeed a cosmetic error which will be fixed in the next game patch. Everyone gets it, including me.

Why it does not appear in your game is a mystery, it works fine for me and most others. What if you make a new Windows user and log into it with that - does it still happen there?

If so, how about on any other machine you can install it on, as a diagnostic test?

I see you have OneDrive running. Right click on Documents in the left column of File Explorer, just under This PC there. Go to properties, location. What does it say in there?

And there are quite a few failed Windows updates in there. Run the Update utility, apply everything it finds, and reboot.

And please run both these Windows repair tools:

That does NOT sound good! My instinct at this point would be to recommend a Windows Reset at the least, plus a thorough check of hardware.

How do you feel about those ideas?

You have an AV app Panda Dome that I've not come across before. Do make sure eu4.exe is in all its exceptions lists, and it is not doing realtime scans of the the Steam/SteamApps/common/Eu4 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Eu4 folders.

Disable the Discord overlay.

I hope one of those does it, as I don't see anything else to cause this to you!

I see you have Avast! which has been a problem with our games in the past, if not so much recently. You are confident you added ck3.exe to all its exceptions lists? And prevented it doing realtime scans of the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders?

Disable the Discord overlay.

That's all I see in there that's caused problems for us before. Of course the major difference in those two machines is Win10 vs 11 , but we know the game does run on Win 11 in general!

I am sorry, I cannot see what is wrong on this machine or Windows installation to prevent our game starting.

I take it Stellaris and EU4 work okay for you?

Our similar game Crusader Kings 2 is free to play on Steam now. Does it work or have the same problem?

Please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here, thanks.

I have, and I see you are running the game as Admin. Just as your screenshots says. Please don't do that, it causes problems all by itself.

And I'd much prefer you respond with text and screenshots, not movies. Thanks.

Then you are in the wrong folder. You need to be in Steam/SteamApps/Common/CK3/binaries/ for that to work.

So it's something on this problem machine getting in the way, it seems. Can I please get a new dxdiag.txt from both machines.

And on the problem machine, install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here, thanks.

I won't delete the post, others may be helped by it.

No need to attach the files if the problem is fixed, thanks.
