Its not just the folks in your lobby, its actually all players on your friends list but it is available inside ranked lobbies.

Even just 1 fill can at times make the game nearly unplayable and there are days where you get 5 fill lobbies in a row, there is no guarantee the enemy team has fills either.

Would love to at least have this issue be acknowledged, it's especially awkward as an ADC main who might have to lane with a top laner at times (rarely ends well, even if things like fasting Senna help).

The work outlined in this article also applies to Challenger. We're investigating changes that would reduce the number of autofilled folks at the cost of players getting their secondary role more often.

It is highly unlikely that most games are actually lost in champ select. Most games are lost when the nexus explodes.

Probably because those Summoners are identified by names and by numbers. The internal Summoner ID number is how the system identifies an individual (as you could change your account's name). If you pull the Summoner ID number with an API (which you can), you know who it is. You'd have to find a way to obscure that, which is a larger rewrite of what's going on in champion select.

1. People are OPGG checking their teammates and dodging undesirable winrates.

  1. People are dodging off of team comps alone, if it looks unwinnable, they leave.

Obfuscating the name solves issue 1. . . But the case that the 2nd issue is the main reason people dodge? Then I can see the value gained vs effort to develop this change isn't worth it.

Then the real issue is people don't think games are winnable, and how to change/balance the game to give them confidence. Hence, not worth the dev time for ...

Short untechnical version: removing the names only solves the problem if you aren't using a 3rd party tool (like Mobalytics, Blitz, et al). We'd have to change a bunch of stuff behind the scenes as well.

But how about being proactive, and eliminate one of the primary reasons players dodge in the first place?

This answer is going to be unsatisfying but we've looked into it and it is intensely expensive relative to the value it provides. Not saying never, but given all the things we can work on its fairly low on the priority list.

This answer is going to kind of suck, but it is the truth: He will be able to play League, but if he continues to get AFK penalties he will eventually have long wait periods as he rises in the tiers. (We aren't banning him from the game, but he will be unable to play for 2 weeks at a time at the highest tiers)

There isn't a great way to detect the difference between a crash and someone doing it on purpose (and if there were, people would just cause their game to crash to defeat such detection). The priority call has to be to preserve the experience of the most players possible.

You probably aren't winning a large % of the games where he goes AFK, and that can't feel great to your teammates either. It also turns out it doesn't feel great to the people on the other team who go from having a fun back and forth to a hollow victory.

If he hasn't already, I would recommend reaching out to player support to see if there's a common resolution to his crashing...

With penalties this harsh for dodging you really can't expect that person to dodge, so you just expect everybody to go into game knowing it's a loss and be ok with it?

Lot to unpack here, but let me try:

  • dodging isn’t good behavior, it screws up the game for at least 9 other folks and potentially more
  • we are working on solves for hostage taking in champ select, but this problem is not as widespread as you are making it out to be (that’s not to say it isn’t garbage when it happens, just that it’s unlikely to happen 3x in a day)
  • it being “understood” that dodging is Ok in high ranked situations is wrong. That’s a rationalization that is entirely selfish. If your favorite champion is banned the expectation is you play a different champion. If you have someone with a 48% winrate the expectation is you play well enough to deal with the slight disparity
