Most Challenges will start at 0, some like collection will be retroactive, some others will also be able to key off of stats we've collected in the past.

And is there a way to turn challenges off? I'm not that interested in them and some menus look a bit...overloaded (I hope that's the right word). But the new ranked borders look really pretty, especially the Diamond one

Do you have any tricks for gaming related motion sickness? I have a friend who struggles with this and it very much limits his ability to game with us. We do our best to work around it but...yeah.

I'm actually interested in what a good communication tool could be. I think pings are a good idea, but they lack the depth and variety needed. I do think they're a good starting point though, an idea could be to have more ping options, especially for vision ("is it warded here?" "please ward here" and "it is warded here"), or objectives/directions (let's do this objective, let's engage, let's not engage,...)
I think there are games in market that have pretty robust ping systems. Quick-chat is also an approach I am interested in. (Contextually aware messages that can be sent in chat via click/hotkey rather than typed out)
Howdy friends, I'm the design lead on the Behavioral Systems team for League of Legends.
Some quick thoughts:
The core goal and motivation people think about when they ask for broader voice support in League is better team cohesion by increasing communication.
I actually think that's a noble goal and if that were the only thing at play I'd be super gung ho about team voice chat.
Unfortunately what we've seen time and time again is that the more rich the communication tool, the more powerful it is as a means for disruptive behavior. Put more simply: It's way worse to be told you're a noob via voice than it is to be told the same through text.
And beyond that, voice is more damaging and disruptive to marginalized groups. It reveals more information about them that has been repeatedly demonstrated to increase severity and frequency of harassment. (Think gender, accent, dialect, etc)

We dont care about text evaluation, we need gameplay evaluation. Why does riot keep ignoring gameplay toxicity which is far more harmful while hyper focussing on the chat?
We're doing both. Each of them are independent and very tricky spaces.

/u/RiotMeddler the team has been kicking the 'working on solutions' can down the road for months (years) now when it comes to toxicity. I think its time that you share, even if premature, what's the solutions and the goal target patches for these feature. Its not good enough to say working on it and then 360 no scope my all chat while still only handing out chromas for 6-12 months of excellent behaviour that is required to attain honor level 5.
This /all chat feature removal is simply a punishment for the minority of players that are good-sports and enjoy talking to opponents in healthy way, with some reasonable and good spirited banter. Why not tie /all to high honor levels and actually make these honor levels both easier to achieve and easier to lose?
Not Meddler, but can talk a little bit about what we're looking at.
The main thing is a large, centralized, improved system of text evaluation that will cut across all Riot Games. It's very exciting tech.
But it's not ready yet. And until it is, we have to deal with the realities that we see in our games today, and those realities are pretty upsetting right now.
We're committed to doing the right thing here, but as you rightly ascertained it is a minority of players that will be negatively impacted here. We suspect the general impact will be positive to neutral.
Depending on how everything shakes out, we're open to future changes in this space.
