Sounds like there are driver issues with threaded rendering and AMD RDNA cards that we will need to workaround, seen a few reports of low FPS

What graphics card do you have?

Would this be feasible? /u/darkimmortal

The mobile client is built from the same codebase as the desktop client, so applying the mobile ARM optimisations to desktop is literally a matter of flicking a switch

That said we have no apple silicon plans yet, and I don’t want to downplay the difficulty in releasing an apple silicon version, there is quite a lot more involved, but at least some of the work is ready to go

Also, are there any news relatively to RS in macOS? I know Apple doesn't help with deprecating OpenGL. But my client "crashes" every time I close it. At least my computer says so, but it's weird, because I just closed it. In addition, it always crashes if I connect/disconnect an external screen.

Your exit crash may be fixed in the next client update. External monitor connect/disconnect crash on macOS is a complex issue and a fix is a long way off. #engine-feedback channel on the official RS discord is good for this stuff, lots of mac related discussion

The new rendering system has been used in new content for quite some time now

Fixes for these issues will be released as part of a batch of Mac bug fixes. For timescale and other info there is a channel #mac-update-feedback on the official RS Discord

I think Linux could use this quite badly, the framerate drop from enabling shadows is quite dramatic. (110 down to 70 or so, seems to be just on the GPU.)

This brings up another question - do you plan to continue supporting Linux as a separate platform, or making use of Proton now that Steam play is a viable option? (And any Linux gamer is going to be using Steam.)

Hoping to release Linux threaded rendering support later (pending some gpu driver issues that might end up preventing it entirely)

No plans to change the Linux release atm

Try medium for 4xMSAA

What resolution?

What is anti aliasing quality set to?

Do the other games use MSAA? It is generally one of the most hardware intensive anti aliasing methods, in exchange for some of the best results

thank you so much for investigating this. i do have some more info if it helps:

if i log in and wait about 5-10 extra seconds, many of the ingame objects in the world change color as if a shader has been applied. after that i am able to play the game normally again. so maybe some of the shaders just arent loading properly at first and then have to re-load after logging in, or something like that.

after this, re-launching the game again did not have this issue again unless the game was closed for several hours

You should be able to workaround by simply disabling custom cursors

thanks for the tip. i will resort to this if waiting a few seconds after logging in as mentioned earlier stops working as a workaround. not having the cursor change depending on what im pointing at feels like im playing blindfolded lol

This is the irradiance calculation, where some background rendering takes place to improve lighting. It's very interesting you only see the cursor crash while this is in progress.

Can you make it crash after teleporting to a new area (irradiance calculation will occur again on teleport), as well as when loading into the game fresh?

The error message is meaningless and unconnected to the point where it might as well not be displayed, and in fact we have removed it for new installations. At some point this will be applied to existing installations. Think of it like the windows 'application has stopped working' dialog

There is a separate issue on Mojave that we have no plans to fix any time soon, as it is resolved by later security patches. If you update to the latest Mojave security patch the issue will be resolved. There is a chance the High Sierra fix will also fix the early Mojave issue, but this is not being tested and we do not endeavour to support unpatched macOS versions

I've analysed the crash reports associated with your account and you seem to be running into an issue with custom cursors. You should be able to workaround by simply disabling custom cursors in the in-game graphics settings. I have added this to the backlog to be looked at.

Is there anything about your system you can think of that might be unusual relating to cursors? Or something that might have changed if it is a recent issue? (Nothing has changed on our end with that system) Does it still happen when OBS is not running? Also noticed youve got several AHK scripts running, does it still happen with those all closed? Do you have anything else that may be hooking into the game (screen recording, antivirus, game helper tools, overlays, etc)?

Is there any rough eta on this update? I'm running a ryzen 5 3600 with sapphire pulse 5700xt, and with a mix of high/ultra settings, I can't even get a 60fps everywhere, but my gpu load is still stuck at 60/70%. I'm aware that covid-19 slowed down the progress to this, but I think that lots of players are really looking forward to this update.

I made a complaint about it years ago on my old Macbook but was met with the usual "get a pc bro" responses. I took a 3 year break, now I have a new Macbook yet all of those problems still occur. It's the main reason I never do bossing, the other day it crashes during my first Seiryu attempt, I was 25 minutes in and had to start the whole thing over. It makes any non afk-combat so risky.

Are you still seeing these issues on mac as of the update 1 week ago? Unless you are affected by the High Sierra bug, the mac client should be more stable and multiple players with similar issues have confirmed this
