77 years ago, 1 of the 18 AT16 prototypes were selected for a limited production. Tortoise would be the 2nd heaviest machine ever constructed in the UK (TOG was 1st). Its use to test the weight limits of bridges was crucial to future tank design and logistic planning.

In February 1945, 76 years ago, the T-44-100 appeared for the first time. The Soviets attempted to mount a 100 mm gun into the T-44. After tests, the 100 mm gun was deemed good enough. This evolved and went to service as the T-54, which went on to see over 40 combat missions!
In 1993, 28 years ago, the Type 74G first appeared. As the Cold War ended, the plan to replace the Type 74 with the newer Type 90 was changed in favor of upgrading them with infrared cameras instead. This proved to be too expensive and was canceled with only 4 completed.
76 years ago, the T-44-122 first appeared. A total of 3 T-44 prototypes were made: two 85 mm gun variants and one 122 mm gun variant. With a cramped turret, low fire rate, and small ammo load, the 122 mm variant was cancelled in favor of producing the 85 mm one.
In February, 84 years ago, the BT-7 mod. 1937 appeared for the first time. It featured a new conical turret as well as projector headlamps allowing it to fight in the darkness. Thousands of BT-7s were built with Factory No. 183 manufacturing 4,727 tanks of this series alone.
In February, 77 years ago, production of the Valentine Mk XI began. The vehicle was the first British tank to mount a 75 mm gun and to have an armored stowage bin. The Valentine Mk XI was used only as a command tank as it was outclassed by newer tanks by the time it was ready.
88 years ago, Rheinmetall and Krupp (each working in secret) delivered Germany's first heavy tank. 5 were constructed in total, but a successful propaganda campaign to conceal the production of the Pz. IV led the world to believe that numbers were significant by 1939.
