It's so cool seeing in-depth ideas with a lot of thought put into them. We love reading through threads like these!

It’s 2023. I think this is the year for the whole damn mmo culture to be testing new games anyways. We need to test to save the genre :p

I’m afraid not. And while we do offer preorder packages for the alphas and betas, no person should buy those looking to play a β€œgame”. The packages are solely intended to support the project, and playing during those periods will be repetitive/bug ridden and not indicative of a completed MMORPG.

Hello my friend. You can find updates with our progress reports on a monthly basis through our live streams on twitch. It’s important to remember that our goal is to release when we are ready, and not to strive for perfection. Our next major testing checkpoint is A2. The date for this testing period has not yet been announced. And we have learned to avoid providing dates unless we are relatively certain about the dates we give. Following a development journey is not for everyone, and that’s ok. We want to play this just as bad, if not more so. ❀️πŸ’ͺ

As mentioned before, you can't hide your Red, even at sea. Being Red trumps all PVP states. In the Open Sea you are still Red when everyone else is Purple.

Glorious Ashes community - it's time for another Dev Discussion! Dev Discussion topics are kind of like a "reverse Q&A" - rather than you asking us questions about Ashes of Creation, we want to ask YOU what your thoughts are.

Our design team has compiled a list of burning questions we'd love to get your feedback on regarding gameplay, your past MMO experiences, and more. Join in on the Dev Discussion and share what makes gaming special to you!

Dev Discussion - Lore Characters
What do you want to see out of important characters in the lore? How do you like interacting with them and where do you want to see yourself in the story?

The world PoIs exist in the same place on every server, Verra is a world with history and context, and where the PoIs are mean something to the lore, but to what extent they are open and available will be determined by the players. Maybe the Tower of Carphin's doors won't even open on your server, maybe on another only the first couple floors are available, and maybe on another the whole tower can be traversed.

Depraved

death penalties are disabled during pvp events...

Depraved is correct, during pvp events such as caravans, guild wars, and sieges, the death penalties are disabled between participating characters on opposing sides. Attacking and killing players on the opposing side doesn't trigger the purple and red flags, nor does dying drop any resources or loot. However, you can't hide in this state as a Red corrupted player either. If you are Red, you'll still be Red in the siege or caravan and open to anyone to kill you and drop your loot, regardless of the side you are on. Being Red trumps everything.

Special case, entering Open Seas will turn you purple and a combatant. Open Seas are not a pvp event per se, but are combatant zones.

We certainly aim to make a game that stands out from the crowd and is different. Some things that lessen the experiences for players are in the hands of the players themselves, while some things can be controlled more easily by the game's developers.

Let's look at your example of min-maxing characters. With all the different customization possibilities for your character, such as augments, weapons, archetypes, classes, etc. There will be many different flavors if gameplay to create. With systems ranging from Node sieges to raids, there will be many different activities to apply those customizations of your character to. This, coupled with no DPS meters and no add-ons, should provide players with the means to create what they want, and not necessarily be wrong for doing so :)
