You can't have a mods playlist after that, I don't think?

What launcher version do you see?

CK3 has no settings.txt , that was an error on my part. I see no cause for this problem in those files.

Did you check the temperatures as I described?

Try editing that pdx_setting.txt file, make this change:
"renderer"={
version=0
value="OpenGL"
}
Does that change things at all?

What launcher version do you see? Current is 2021.10.1

Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods in BOTH the Steam Workshop and the Paradox mod site mods.paradoxplaza.com
- delete the folder Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/mod/
- delete the file Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/mods_registry.json (if present)
- delete the file Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/launcher-v2.sqlite (if present)
- run the game up and check the launcher is okay with no mod or other errors
- subscribe to a few mods

- run the game up and see if those mods are now available to you.

I hope that does it for you!

So again, if older versions of the game used to be fast but now are not, this is a local problem rather than issues with the latest game patches. We're basically reduced to guessing what might have gone on in your machine/Windows to have caused this.

Were you unable to locate the other files I asked for? Did you check the temperatures as I described?

Check if Windows is in Games mode, if so undo that.

If you have these apps/utilities running, please unload them as a test: MSI Afterburner, Citrix Workspace, any other performance management/enhancement utilities

When you say it is the same, is this also true of you?
Just tried rolling back to older versions, they still run badly, even though they ran fine earlier in 2021.

What I can see in that dxdiag is your Intel HD 620 video system is unsupported by either game; it is significantly weaker than the minimum requirement for this game, the Iris Pro 580:

That pretty clearly shows this is some local issue in your machine, rather than a game problem as such.

Does that also affect say CK2, EU4, HOI4 or Stellaris?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a f... Read more

Has this always happened ever since you've had the game? Or it was okay up to some point?

We could try a clean reinstall of the AMD driver:

- uninstall it with this tool:
https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Clean-Uninstall-Utility.aspx - reboot
- install it again by fresh download
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download - reboot again

From that error log it's clearly in the video area. When you say it bricks the game, do you mean the whole computer perhaps? I ask because I see several LiveKernelEvents in that dxdiag, which happen when a machine or Windows is rebooted without being downed properly. Are they related to this game, do you know?

That will be a problem between the standalone Paradox client, aka launcher v1, and the way that DLC was set up there - I get it too.

It is being looked into but I don't expect a fix very soon, I'm sorry. I'll raise it again when Paradox resume business in mid-Jan.

Sorry for that problem!

That's going to be a game bug, so we won't be able to fix it for you here.

Please make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach that save there (no need for the other files). QA will look into it and raise it with the developers, although not until next year at this point.

Just put that save aside and try it as you see new patches come out.

Sorry for that problem!

Well, as something like 2/3 of our players use nVidia, including most of the developers, I'm pretty sure we'd know if that was universally the case!

Has it always happened since you've had this game? Or it was okay up to some point?

If you unload GeForce Experience does this still happen from game start?

I've seen that a bit with EU4 but not CK3, until now anyway.

You're not running ck3.exe as the Windows Admin user, are you?

What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

ck3.exe (in the Steam CK3/binaries folder)
dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3/launcher folder)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.10.1/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that does not help, also set all those .exe files (EXCEPT ck3.exe!) to run as the Windows Admin user.

No obvious cause for this problem there I'm afraid.

If you run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer, what happens? Any Windows error show up?

By sending that error report you are NOT starting a process of diagnosis of your individual problem and you will never be contacted about it. Those reports are anonymised and collated so the developers can see general trends and new widespread problems, it is not an individual service. That's what we here are!

If there are no mods in use, attach the affected saved game here and we'll see if we get the problem too. If so it's a game bug and you'll need to post it in the bug reports forum here.

Is this right from game start? Or only in late game, with large empires and armies perhaps?

It can take a long time (especially first time when it is writing caches), and indeed the circle does not move like it should sometimes.

How long have you left it?

A little odd that running the game does not raise those temperatures, because a crash or hang that only happens after playing for a period sounds very much like overheating!

In the game's launcher, disable Vsync and cap the refresh rate at 60. Does that help the problem at all?
