Has this always happened since you've had this game on Gamepass? Or it was okay up to some point?

After one of these crashes can you start it right up again? Or do you need to reboot, or wait a while, before it will run again?

I see some bluescreens (BSoD) in that dxdiag. Are they related to this game, or something else?

But that is a really old version of the launcher, current is 2021.10.1 . Probably if you'd added that version of the launcher to the Avast exceptions list, that would have helped too.

I've never seen anything like this in Linux before:

What actual video system do you have? If it is an nVidia, can you try their proprietary driver for it please?

I now have reports of this with Avast antivirus only, except just 1 report on AVG. Putting the launcher in all its exceptions lists seems to be fixing it reliably.

I also have one report that opting into the beta of the next launcher version 2022.1 helped.  

Has this game ever worked on this machine? Or never yet?

What happens if you run the game's executable directly from a terminal command line - what output do you see then?

How do you delete files and folders, is that your question?

If so: you use File Explorer, that comes with Windows, for that purpose.  

All those save files are producing corruption errors, as you can see in that log. I don't know of any reason for that.


Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign - NOT by loading any existing one. Does this happen to that new campaign ?  

Try deleting the Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders (except any valued saved games of course, move them elsewhere first).  

Are these saves modded or unmodded?

You mention the lobby - is this just MP games?

In Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 is a file last_save.ck3 . Move that to the /save games/ folder, does it load okay?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

**File Locations on Mac OS X**
The executable and DLC folder are in Users/USER/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Crusader Kings III/
To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and type in ~/Library/ .
The user files (settings.txt, error logs, saved games, gfx, mods) are in /Users/USER/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings III/ .  

If there are no mods involved, the first one sounds like a bug so the Bug Reports forum would be the best place. Attach a saved game there that shows the problem.

I don't have time to actually play this game so I don't know the answer to your second question. Make a new thread on it in the main game forum here, hopefully the experienced gameplayers can answer it for you.  

That should not be necessary of course! I'm glad it worked out for you.

Saves in the Steam Cloud should still be available. Local save files might have to be moved, but I know nothing about how Proton handles user files.  

FYI , in Ubuntu 21.04 I just subscribed to a mod that changes the game's UI to a Burgundy theme. The game loaded and ran perfectly fine, and the mod was enabled okay.  

Does that just happen with CK3? Your other games like CK2 and EU4 are okay with mods?

What launcher version do you see? Current is 2021.10

And at what point does this crash occur? While the launcher is starting or running, or while starting or running the game from it?
