Is this with a save/campaign that was started under a previous patch? If so, best to revert to that patch in the Steam Betas tab for this game, to finish it off.

Then you can opt out of that older version back to the current version, to start a new campaign.

All the best!

Royal Court worked under the older patch so that should be okay. How the game reacts to the introduction of a new DLC part-way into a campaign I do not know though, that's a quite independent factor to the patch save compatibility issue. You could of course disable that DLC in our launcher or the Steam "Manage My DLCs" page.

Good luck!

I have to admit I was surprised there was no mention of compatibility in the 1.10 release notes, not that I could see anyway.

I would say it is common for a major patch (such as 1.9.x to 1.10.x here) on any of our games to not be 100% save game compatible, though. Normally minor patches (1.9.1 to 1.9.2 say) aren't such an issue.

I do apologise for the effect on you!

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Did you set the refresh rate cap to 60?

But I still have no explanation for that bizarre display issue. Has it always happened with this game? Or it was okay up to some point?

I assume the recent 1.10 patch did not change anything?

No obvious cause in those files, although you may as well update that AMD video driver

Can I get the pdx_settings.txt file please?

They are not. You must have run the launcher from the desktop shortcut or Paradox launcher.exe, which is a standalone mode for users who do not want to run Steam. It does need a separate game installation if used that way, but this game was never ported to t... Read more

1603/1605 errors are typically a previous other installation stuck, or a problem in the Windows update/install processes.

If you see msiexec OR Paradox Launcher running in Task manager-processes, kill it and try this launcher install again please.

If still no good, do you see Paradox Launcher v2 in the Windows Control Panel to uninstall? If so does it uninstall cleanly, or get an error doing that? You can use this MS tool to clear the stuck install/uninstall:

Never seen that before. Are there mods involved perhaps?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

THEN Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60. Disable ALL mod... Read more

Amel12 said: As for the Windows updates, that is very odd. Upon checking, the system tells me that I have the latest version of Windows 10 installed. I did check for updates, it says everything is good. Could there perhaps be any additional updates that I am unaware of? I downloaded some optional updates, non of which had anything to do with Windows however.
I said that because Speccy normally lists all Windows updates that have been applied since installation in a separate section in its output - there was no such section in the file you uploaded. I don't... Read more

I have tried the suggestions here, but it continues to happen. For note am playing through xboxgamepass, locally installed.
In future please make your own new thread. Thanks.

Has the game ever worked for you? Or never yet?

Does the game run from ck3.exe directly from File Explorer? If not, any error?

I see you've set the game to use the Vulkan renderer. Please switch it back to DirectX11.

And please run this Windows repair tool

We don't see any errors or problems in those logs, unfortunately. But you might try that folder deletion again BUT install from this updated version instead:
https://launcher.paradoxinteractive.com/v2/paradox-launcher-installer-macos

Whether that helps or not, does the game run okay from ck3.app directly from Finder?

Yes, Vulkan is really only provided in the Windows edition for diagnostic purposes, rather than being intended as a permanent thing to use.

The problem is with your nVidia driver or card:

Please try this:

- reboot
- install August 2023 by fresh download ... Read more

Amel12 said: When starting as administrator, the game just crashes without a message afterwards.
You should not be starting ck3.exe as the Windows Admin user, that causes problems all by itself. What happens if you run it without doing that? Any error show?

I see you use Norton AV. While not known to be a problem per se, make sure ck3.exe is in all its exceptions lists, AND that it is not doing realtime scans of the Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders

Then, I see Windows 10 was installed more than two years ago but no further up... Read more

I see a crash in DirectX11 there:

If you change the renderer in the launcher Game Settings menu to Vulkan, does that change the problem at all?

You could also run this Windows repair tool

Disabling mods does not remove the effects they have already had on the save game files. So if you don't get this problem with games that have never had any mods used in them, this has to be a mod problem.

You might seek help in the user Mods forum here.

Good luck!
