CK3 launcher appears, but no luck in starting the game
Running ck3.exe should not start Steam or the launcher. You are just double clicking on it in File Explorer, is that right?

FYI when I do that with my ethernet cable unplugged, the game starts up just fine. However running the game from the Steam PLAY button reproduced your problem, so I suggest you lodge a Bug Report on it please - I can only assume that is unintended.

Linwe said: This isn't a problem for the other paradox games, only for CK3 as it runs it's MP over Paradox Plaza.
Actually it uses the external Nakama MP service. Stellaris was the last game to use the PP service (but can use Nakama when you make the Crossplay choice). HOI4 and CK2 still use it.

We have three possible workarounds that may solve it:

Disable IPv6
- Close CK3
- Go to Control Panel > View Network status and tasks > Change adapter settings (left side)
- Find your Hamachi Connection and Disable ... Read more

They have not made a separate console Bug Reports forum, that is right. Whether that is planned I do not know. Please use the standard one for the time being, thanks - add [Console] or [Xbox] / [PS4] to the thread title when you do.

Don't run the Paradox Launcher from the desktop shortcut, as that is a non-Steam mode and will not finds your Steam games. Only run it from the Steam PLAY button.

If the launcher does not start up when run that way, Please delete the ~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive/ folder. To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and paste in ~/Library/Application Support/ . Then run the game from the PLAY Button in Steam, to reinstall the launcher.

If that does not get the launcher running, we will need these files from that same folder:

Attach ALL .log files Found here ~/Library/Application Support/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

There is no problem with this game being ported to MacOS. Your problem is due to running on unsupported hardware; as this game has not been ported to native M1 code we are reliant on Apple's Rosetta emulation for performance and graphics. Why that affects this game so badly but not earlier ones I have no idea, I am sorry.

Interesting! This is an option in the Xbox menus, I assume? Sorry to have to ask but I'm not a console player!

I am sorry for this problem! I don't think there's anything you or I can do about it here; it's time for a formal post in the Bug Reports forum, if it hasn't been posted there already.

I mean right click on it in your Windows taskbar and select Exit or Quit.

A few Windows updates are stalled there, if you run Update does it find anything to apply?

Lots of utilities and apps running, but nothing I've seen cause problems to our games before.

I have a feeling this is hardware-related but I haven't seen anythign to back that up, not even which general area it might be. We eliminated DirectX 11 but that's about it ... and why apparently only this game?

Do you have Imperator, if so dos that have the same problem? It's the only other one of our games that's quite similar to this one.

It's not WAD and that does not happen for me in fact - it runs fine when Steam is in offline mode. Is that how you were doing it, or total disconnection from the internet?

Either way, any different if you run ck3.exe directly?

As this point I can only assume this is a bug, either in the Linux build overall or only when run on an unsupported OS. I don't suppose you'd consider moving to Ubuntu?

If not, I'm frankly not sure what to suggest as we can't escalate the issue as is. Can you play on 1.5.1 and see if the next patch resolves this issue for you?

Has this always happened with this game? Or it was okay up to some point?

Any mods involved?

If not, in the launcher-Game Settings menu choose display mode fullScreen, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

IF that doesn't help, DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log, exceptions.log

Could you provide us with your DXDiag, as well as the zip of the crash folder created after each crash? It'll help us in narrowing down the core issue.

Sorry you are experiencing issues with the game, I do wish you good luck on your future endeavors in CK3!

Hey there!

I've returned to say that indeed - we managed to find the issue and have now logged it into our database for fix. I cannot promise nor estimate when exactly we will manage to fix it, but I have prioritized it to make sure we get to it swiftly.

Thank you for your vigilance and, most importantly, patience!

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If those don't help:

Best to delete those old saves then.

You will not of course be the only person not having Royal Court, yet I have not seen that script error reported by other users. Yet I have to say it looks like a bug of some sort ... unfortunately my Ubuntu installation is a VM so I can start but not actually play this game to see if I get them too.

This has only happened since 1.5.1.1, is that right? Older versions don't do this to you?

Presumably the endless repeats of this are causing your problem:
20:22:04][jomini_script_system.cpp:209]: Script system error!
Error: Failed to fetch variable for 'ep1_03_achievement_unlocked' due to not being set
Script location: file: common/achievements/ep1_achievements.txt line: 40
I don't see that on vanilla CK3 in Windows or Mac ... are we sure everything in both the Stea-CK3 and Documents-CK3 folders before installing again?
