This. Server Ads as posts aren't interesting to the community nor a benefit, regulating them is much more complicated than a focused megathread and that thread also follows (and is the only viable option to) the same rules and guidelines as server ads on all our other channels.

I understand that some feel the activity here is rather low, but server ads on the main page aren't really improving that issue at all. We have no intentions to allow such posts for now.

The devs have a direction for the game that makes tasks technical presumably to make the game more social and difficult, but personally I feel it generally doesn't respect your time enough. It's hard to believe that wooden shovels still move 1 dirt at a time in vanilla, on top of having to constantly replace them due to the maximum durability loss with the new repair system.

Edit: I didn't realise I was actually replying to SLG staff at the top of the thread. I didn't mean any offense to be talking about you instead of to you πŸ˜…

Eco is a multiplayer economy game, so it is pretty important that other players can and have to contribute at all stages and that not everything is doable on your own. Items of any kind regularly requiring replacement parts is necesary to keep economy flowing as well.

User "turtlesprettycool" below did note correctly why the change for ore generation was made - certainly not to disrespect your time. You're just not supposed to fill a role alone for a sizable server, which was easily possible before.

I guess once Update 11.1 is out in a few weeks things will look better in regard to your concerns - the addition for earthworks has already been added and explosives are meant for mining at that stage.

Shovels also did get higher carry capacity based on tier back. We still don't want stone age to be something where you can do a lot of terraforming, though, you're simply not supposed to, especially not alone. (And if you really want, you can easily modify the stac...

But the explosives in Update 11.1 will do, which are supposed to fill that gap.

It can even be awkward to use like the hand plow, I just want that revolutionary leap forward for mining like the steam truck gives for everything else

Update 11 added the scoop to the Steam tractor?

Vertical farming on White Tiger is acceptable if done in a manner that can be considered realistic compared to irl "hydroponics", typically the government will have guidelines on it (or provide when asked), like a specific amount of lights and water sprinkling through pipes to ensure a bit better balance for the saved space. It's a simple law violation, not a rule violation. (On White Tiger there is text laws that apply as automatic laws would, just manually - but they are not server rules and don't cause any consequences of administrative nature)

Thank you! I will try this out. I searched everywhere and didn't see this before, much appreciated.

It's mentioned in the release notes of the versions it was introduced in and it should also appear in the logfiles if you don't login.

You can provide the login via commandline parameters, either -username= and -password= or you can create a token on play.eco and use -userToken=.

As we explained in the mod mail, advertisements for servers (any post that has anything that identifies the server) are only allowed by server admins and in the megathread.

We additionally tolerate "Looking for server" posts in which users can freely recommend servers in the comments and to some degree "Looking for group / players" posts, for example when someone looks specifically for people joining a town on a specific server they play on or a specific profession to fill on a server due to players leaving or generally forming a small non-public coop server if that is not linked with identifiable server information. General server recommendations for public servers are akin to ads and not allowed by anyone but the server admin in the megathread, asking for being DMed about a recommendation instead of just posting it doesn't change anything about that. Such posts aren't very relevant to the community and rather detrimental to quality content.

There is a tool someone made for auto-restarting eco servers, but I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. RAM is very important for the game. I would recommend a server CPU with ECC RAM for error correction, and I think 32GB of RAM is a good target for a big server. But I'm not 100% sure since I haven't run a server with over 100 players. The CPU needs to handle a lot of data pretty fast as well, so try to get some GHz on it. That's my thoughts at least. Good luck!

High frequency desktop CPUs are much better suited and much cheaper as well. ECC memory can possibly be used on respective boards for newer Ryzen generations, but isn't really necessary for this type of application. Automatic restarts on failure and once a day are indeed recommended currently.

In addition to what u/SLG-Dennis said, you can also ask here. We aren't allowed to spam advertise servers, but I don't believe there are any rules preventing you from searching for the right one here. :)

Indeed, it's only considered a server ad if it is posted unsolicited or advertising a specific server. Looking for group / Looking for server and similar posts, despite regularly reported as well, are currently considered fine.

Especially the settlement system has caused an increase in players looking for someone with specific professions for a settlement on some server, without being related with the server directly, so we think that should be allowed.

Well, we would need a copy of the savegame and logs, can send to [email protected].
A database starting point save and one that grew "massively" later to compare would also be useful.
Also a full list of mods.

By not assuming malice with anyone, e.g. not considering someone that posted constructive and polite feedback (no matter if I or we personally agree or not) insufferable to begin with.

P.S. at risk of killing the funny, perhaps I should clarify that the (a) and (b) contrast was only supposed to be a humorous rhetorical device emphasizing how welcoming the game otherwise is for pacifist players. I hope no one read that thinking SLG could earnestly have been taking such a political stance, apologies if it came across that way.

In text, especially on Reddit with it's somewhat "No Emojis" stance, it can be very hard to recognize any rhetorical devices that aren't conveyed through simple text. I didn't get it as what you intended it to be, but also not as malicious. :)

Supposedly it's an issue with a logging (not sure if archiving or wood chopping type of logging tho) mod. Silverleaf is encountering the same issue, but besides restarting the run without that mod, our glorious admin hasn't found another solution.

Is there any additional information available? The only "logging" as in "archiving" mod I know is Chronicler and that works fine on all five official servers without issues - that doesn't use the game db for any saving, though and hence couldn't explain OPs "database is growing very quickly" thing. Custom mod?

There is a server ad thread and a much more active discord channel on our official discord (https://discord.gg/eco) that is currently more suitable to get a first impression than the server list that we want to develop into that direction. A real feeling for if a server is for someone can mostly only be gotten by trying, though.

I guess the simple but honest answer would be "c) they didn't have anything in regard to "pacifist" playthroughs in mind". That's ultimately what is the case, we never accounted for "pacifist" in that sense at all. It's the first time I have ever seen that someone actually does something like this, though I have heard about it before :)

We actually abstract nearly everything in Eco - the food system for example requires a simple "balance it out perfectly", which probably depending on which science paper you consider isn't very correct for one or the other reason. I do remember someone asking for the ability to get a perfect balance just with plants once, which was a interesting idea we still have tracked, but isn't really a focus or priority of the game. That some playstyles provide a specific challenge is also technically a interesting thing to have.

We also don't make any statements, in opposite to what some reviews about "fearmongering democrats" note, Eco has al...

Probably the chat, haha. No, I don't know, probably not playing where everyone else plays. We definitely have no wish to add any PvP though, general feedback is very clear about conflict being sufficient or already too much as is.

On a typical server you don't really get to make 99% of what you need yourself, especially on larger servers. The independence with grouping you cite is also a frequent reason for conflict in servers with other players.

Seems you might be playing on very cozy servers.
I wished the ones we need to administrate were like that.
