That 0xc000007b error usually means missing or bad Microsoft modules, often Visual C++.

In Windows Control Panel then need to uninstall VC++ 2010 AND 2015/17/19/22 , there may be several instances of each.

THEN have them Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

DIsable the Discord overlay, and unload GeForce Experience before starting the game.

If that doesn't help, I don't know what could be doing this to you!

If your empire has expanded too far, across much or all of the world, and say a civil war or rebellion has broken out, it is possible there is just too much going on for the game to cope with - essentially you would have gone beyond the game's design limits. Does that describe your situation would you say?


DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log .

AND attach the affected save game file here. Thanks.

I've just seen another case of this with EU4; in that case there was also an Intel video system installed but it had no driver installed. Could that be the case here?

If not, I frankly have no idea what is wrong on this machine to cause this to you. Please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here please.

I don't know then.

What MacOS are you on? Latest is 13.4.1 , updates of it are the only way to get updated Rosetta versions.

Disabling mods doesn't remove effects they have already had on the save game file. As you don't see this in an unmodded game, they may well be the cause here.

All you can really do is post this save in Bug Reports here for QA to look into. Then put it aside and try it as you see new game patches come out.

This game is not supported on Apple Silicon (M1/M2) hardware, so we are reliant on Apple's Rosetta emulation for such matters.

Usable resolutions ought to be listed in Documents/Paradox Interactive/EU4/logs/system.log , have you tried those?

Your desktop resolution is an odd one though!

When you hit PLAY in the Steam client, choose the Nakama MP option in the mini-menu you see there. All players will have to do this, as it uses a different MP service.

If that helps, the affected players have almost certainly some Steam ports blocked

You haven't implemented the settings I posted in #2 above - please try that.

If that still doesn't help, you should do a clean reinstall of your nVidia software, via this tool https://developer.nvidia.com/cleanup-tool

We have three possible workarounds that may solve it:

Disable IPv6
- Close EU4
- Go to Control Panel > View Network status and tasks > Change adapter settings (left side)
- Find your Hamachi Connection and Disable it
- Find your Internet connection adapter (for me, it was WiFi)
- Right click your internet adapter and select properties
- Scroll down to find "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box
- Select Ok
- Start up EU4 and should work.

Disable all other network adapters
Go to Windows Control panel.
Click on Network & Internet.
Click on View Network Status.
Quick Tip: You can also quickly access these settings by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting the Network & Internet settings option.
Click on Change adapter options.
Right-click all network adapters that are not connected to the internet and select the Disable option.

You must have run the launcher from the desktop shortcut or Paradox launcher.exe, which is a standalone mode for users who do not want to run Steam. It does need a separate game installation if used that way, but this game was never ported to that platform.

You'll need to run it from the PLAY button in your Steam Library instead.

If you installed Windows 11, it does that by default I believe. It's nothing to do with this game as such! As grotaclas says it just follows what Windows is set up as.

If you run the game from the Steam PLAY button it cannot be using the Epic account ... !

Maybe some screenshots would help?
