We’ve got some plans here.

It’s important that Mastery not be entirely tied to game outcome (win/loss/placement) and have a performance component attached. Good performances are usually followed by good game outcomes, but I think we can recognize that’s not always true. Arena has different performance indicators than does SR or ARAM, so while placement might be an input it’s unlikely to be the only one.

Hi, tacking onto this to get some assistance.

I've recently come across vanguard error 185, which doesn't let me access certain things online. For example, while I can access the shop in the client and start a game, I can't see match history. Other things I can't access include:

old.reddit (but I can access new.reddit)

escape from tarkov servers (my game gets stuck at "loading profile data" screen)

I also had a blue screen crash during a tft game. I have tried several restarts, but the problem persists on both my normal network and my hotspot

Could you try exiting Vanguard (right click Vanguard in the system tray and select Exit Vanguard) and then trying Ctrl+R on old.reddit to do a hard refresh and see if it still fails to load? Just on reading this, it sounds more like you're having an internet issue that caused the 185, but due to how it looked on your machine it feels like it was the 185 that caused the internet issue. Vanguard can't impact things like website access and wouldn't be doing any actions when you play other games. This would help confirm that Vanguard wasn't causing those hiccups.

I personally care but have little ability to help here because I don't work on the right team. If you DM me the link I will happily send it to the designer I know who loves Neeko the most though.

I see. So if the designers decide to re-add Ability Haste to Zhonya's Hourglass, Ornn's passive would automatically give less AP and Armor to make room for 333g worth of Ability Haste? Does that mean Ornn upgrades are going to end up with ugly numbers that aren't multiples of 5?

Yeah to your first point thats right. Pretty sure the numbers arent pretty yeah but they aren't like decimals. Im pretty sure you'll get numbers like 13 or 28 but not like 4.56.

If I remember right the system rounds down so you'll get like 988 gold worth of stats instead of 1014 gold if the math isnt perfect which it probably isnt for most items, but its the best we can do without doing super gross decimals and whatnot.

A bit unsure what you mean but basically the way this automation works is that we have set a gold amount for I think 7 stats that are mainstream, think AD, AP, HP, etc. So lets say that 1 gold = 10 HP or something. We make it so that for each mainstream stat you have, we split 1k gold worth of stats equally. If you only have 1 of the stats then you have 1k gold worth of that stat, if you have 2 they both have 500 gold worth etc. If you have none of those main stats (not currently possible but in case it were to become possible) then Ornn upgrading the item would add 1k gold worth of HP to the item.

If we change an items stats (whether thats balancing which shouldnt impact it or adding/removing stats) the upgrade system should just automatically detect and adjust to accommodate.

The person you are responding to is right. We are moving to a new system that is designed to make these kinds of mistakes impossible. Right now its all manual, the new system will be automatic.

Hello! What setup are you using for these bots? We are currently working on the Custom Game space to enable the new bots, so knowing the difficulty + settings you are using is valuable for us to triage!

I uninstalled Vanguard and reinstalled and that did work, thanks!

So glad to hear it. GLHF!

Thanks for posting, apologies I've been preoccupied while on a work trip. Will post some further commentary on how the patch has landed hopefully tomorrow.

Currently targeting next patch 14.12! Added in some features and removed tech debt alongside it that should make it easier to adjust in the future.

Did you guys apply a micropatch since yesterday? I was able to play normally but now i can't get in cause "We couldn't install a required dependency"

We did release an update about 2.5 hours ago. You may still have a game open somewhere in the background (when u alt-f4 val it doesnt always close val for example). Rebooting your PC ought to make sure everything's right.

If you're still having the issue, try uninstalling via the Control Panel (not from the System Tray), then launch the game and install again that way.

I'd love to know if the initial reboot solves for you or not, if you're willing to come back and let me know. Hope this fixes for you.

I imagine there's way more people using tools like that than just those who open their mouths in champ select.

We started actioning a lot of the tools that can do that with two week bans, starting this week. If you have some examples recently though of some players, DM me so I can see if there’s some ones we’re missing

This sounds like a fundamental disagreement (intentional or not, probably not.. edit. actually maybe? Based on below comments) between champ design goals and balance goals, which speaks to a larger problem that has been present for many many years in the LoL team

The designers created an untamable monster and now the balance team has to turn the dial waaay down to the point where most ppl don't enjoy playing the champ any more. How anyone did not see this coming during playtesting is beyond me.. and it's happened SO MANY TIMES

Now it's not a fun place for anyone to be, especially phreak for inheriting this hellscape

So framing it as a disagreement makes it sound like conflict, and while that happens every now and then (people are people), I don't think this is really about internal conflict, and will propose an alternate framing:

Your content strategy and your balance strategy must be in sync with each other.

As a dev team, you're creating all this content for a reason: you are creating moments, creating memories, inviting new players into the game, whatever the exact goals might be. For League of Legends, new champions are expected to make a mark on the ecosystem.

If League's balance strategy says that we're going to change and tune champions until they win the same number of games (it doesn't, but at times it hasn't been that far off from saying that), then I can guarantee you that no matter how well designed your next simple champion is, they're going to be forgotten 3 months later. If Naafiri and Sylas are winning the same percentage of games overall, Sylas...

Thankyou Farza. Maybe similar? I grew up on a rural isolated farm in Australia. I had an early passion to want to make video games and (record scratch) now the tech lead for League of Legends. I'd recommend following your passions, empathise and be inspired by the people who are different to you and always always be humbled by the amount of knowledge you do not have
