I should clarify that if PoC is your jam then I don't fault you at all. Obviously Riot has the numbers so you are definitely the majority. I'm just curious if you feel like the person in the post about being made the target audience.
Take a look at this: TPoC Strategy Resources/Archive for February 2024
There's a lot of tabs. And links to other resources too.
Look at the leaderboard on your region's monthly challenge. People were staying up past midnight to rush through 6+ hours of monthly challenge adventures as fast as they could to top the leaderboard.
Path has its hardcore players too, espescially now that the ...
Read moreEh. I bought the ASol bundle. I’ll probably buy the Lissandra bundle. I’d love to see RIOT’s sales figures on that one. That was probably the eye opener.
Eric recently posted in the Path subreddit that "the ASol bundle has done reaaaally well".
It's worse than I thought. The competitive community is getting casual standard and eternal, and some vague promise about a different implementation of ranked ladder. No gauntlet or Runeterra open going forward is terrible.
Hey there, we'll be keeping both Ranked Standard and Ranked Eternal queues up indefinitely while we set up new systems that will allow us to automate more manual processes thus far. Our expectation is that we'll continue alternation between the formats to give players periods of focus. The current ranked season will end as scheduled and provide rewards, but after that, we'll be tightening our team's focus to keep what's most engaging about those modes, while cutting down on the parts that require higher amounts of time with limited player benefit.
But yes, unfortunately, we won't be supporting gauntlets or Runeterra Opens going forward.
Ranked queue going into hibernation is basically the same as the game dying for anyone that wants to play PvP instead of a worse Slay the Spire.
Was fun while it lasted, don't really fault the devs at all, clearly an issue of upper management.
Sorry for the confusion, but just to clarify, ranked standard and eternal queues will still be up - its the gauntlet and tournament systems that will go into hibernation.
Ranked seasons will be smaller in scope, but you'll still be able to play in those queues while we figure out a steady state for those modes.
Possibly the worst part of all this is that I don't even think this is going to make PVE better. 3 star level 30 champs are already pushing the limit of making the game unrecognizable, and Asol's path is kind of the upper limit on how difficult the game can be while still being fun.
More star powers and higher difficulty runs isn't going to make the game better. It's going to result in matches where if you don't combo off and kill them by turn 2 you lose.
So we're pretty excited by the breadth of design opportunity we have in The Path of Champions - we wouldn't be pushing into the zone of 6 stars (and beyond!) if we didn't see the potential and space for it.
For example, with the Freljord adventure, I can tell you that our internal playtests have shown that really different archetypes than before stand the best chance at beating Lissandra; what works against ASol will get a rude welcome from the Ice Witch.
As a PvP only player I have no idea about how Path of Champions is monetized. What kind of things do people buy there? Can't you just unlock everything by playing? I remember it was that way in the original version that I played a few years ago
Hey there! So there's both some stuff we do currently that players have responded to incredibly well, and some future plans we have in store.
Currently, we've seen that in the Emporium, legacy cosmetics are heavily outperformed by purchases of Champion Fragments and event passes that include Path of Champions resources. We've also had a few bundles focused on champs like Aurelion Sol and Elise, and players have come out in force for those offerings.
It's true that currently all these resources can be unlocked by playing (except for the Aurelion Sol skin) over time, but the appetite to support LoR is clearly coming through in what players are buying. Some things are premium exclusive for now, but will eventually be introduced into the free pools. That being said, we're very focused on sustainability, so you'll be seeing an increase in the things players can purchase.
So, our future plans are built with this overwhelming demand in mind - continue to provide n...
Read more/u/RiotMeddler or /u/TinyEric can you share how narrative and worldbuilding will look going forward in LoR, since thats a big draw of the game. With the smaller team, would other League Studio teams pick up some of the slack like creative expressions handling narrative and audio
We've historically used cards in sets to do worldbuilding, and we're going to be shifting away from that and toward using Path of Champions and adventures to do that more. TPoC is where players have had fun connecting with and immersing themselves in the world of Runeterra. Like Eric pointed out in the video, it's where the majority of players have been spending their time.
I know u/ggmattb could. He's just built different
They may be a weapon master, but I doubt they own a single kastmaster.
Heisho's new years resolution was to become a Reptile. He accomplished it in record time.
Heya, Just wanted to chime in to to clarify! Our first balance patch of the year is gonna actually land on February 7th. I also let Serah know so she could update the sidebar!
Durant was totally right! We have a Riot-wide break for the winter holidays but we're back at the grind now!
Sorry. I see Scarzig, I see TK, I like.
