Hello PLATYPUS!

Sorry for the slow reply; I was out of town visiting a friend. With the increase in players recently, I've been getting similar reports once or twice a day, so I put together the following guide with things to try.

If unable to connect to matchmaker:
  • Cause: Likely an internet issue or our matchmaker's IP is blacklisted or the port isn't open.
  • Potential Solutions: Aside from making sure ports 8082 and 8083 are open, see the general solutions below.

If it's not a matchmaker connection issue, then it's a Photon issue. Photon is a popular third-party library for gameplay networking. As much as I like to know when people are having connections issues with MageQuit, all I can really do is relay the reports to the makers of Photon, which is why I put the following list of potential solutions together.

If unable to retrieve pings:
  • Cause: can'...

I replied to the previous post on a different thread already, but remapping the individual WASD keys is now supported as well! Thanks to OGC GroZdarKiPiK for the suggestion :)

I have an update for you! It looks like our match history tables were super full, and one request in score submission was trying to load a lot of that table, occasionally resulting in the request running out of memory and crashing. I cleared out the tables and buffed your XP and gems to make up for the uncounted matches, and everything seems to be functioning properly now!

Also regarding your friend with remote play -- that's a bummer! I don't expect your friend to buy their own copy, but if they end up doing that, MageQuit will automatically select the best region for you two to play in together and route the traffic though that region's server :)

Thanks for letting me know about both things!
Brett

It's not a problem! Happy to help. You're actually the second person to say that about level 5, so I'll look into that today.

Okay, I tested it out and it works great!

Did your friend(s) all install the Steam Link application? We got stuck on that for a bit when we were trying it out.

See the "First time playing" section in the screenshot below:

Hi WestTideZ!

I haven't used remote play myself, but I know others have done it successful for MageQuit (it's a feature 100% provided by Steam). You may already know this, but remote play works by allowing players to connect "virtual" controllers to someone else's PC, and then streams their screen to you.

As far as I know, there are a couple ways to do this in MageQuit.

1. Online: the person actually running the game can use mouse and keyboard or controller to go into Online. Once in the online lobby, other players connected over remote play should be able to join by hitting A on their controllers (or X on PS4 controller, etc). This should allow you to play online games against others if that's what you want to do. However keep in mind that the remote players will likely see double latency (since the game would already be online and then the display has to be sent to them)

2. Couch: if you are only looking to play with your friends doing remote... Read more

A kick mechanic would take a while to develop, and, if not designed well, could be abusable. Do you remember the name of the player?
Thanks!

Hi Jiffypop! Yes, we do have AI that will backfill games if there are not enough players to fill them. Also, if you are just starting out, your first few games will only be against AI so you can learn how to play without getting stomped. We'll be releasing to Nintendo Switch soon so we are all looking forward to fuller lobbies with crossplay. Hope that helps!
