Depending on your exact video card the latest nVidia appears to be:
Version: 515.65.01
Release Date: 2022.8.2
If you are on an earlier 515 please update to that.

The latest Mesa is 22.1.5 so you should try updating that.

Good luck!

From that exceptions log it's clearly a video issue. Are you up to date with the Intel, nVidia and Mesa versions?

Is that CPU or GPU? Whichever one, can we have the temps for the other please?

We see several LiveKernelEvent entries in that dxdiag which happen when Windows is forcibly downed or rebooted. Have you seen that happen, was is related to this game or something else?

You may as well update that nVidia driver to August 2022 ... Read more

Has this always happened since you've had the game? Or it was okay up to some point?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

What happens when you run the ./stellaris executable from a terminal command line? Please post that output here, thanks.

Does this also happen in single player to them and/or you?

Here's the clean reinstall process:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Is that any better?

Then this should not have happened of course, I can only imagine it's a new bug. Sorry about that!

I'm not sure if you are saying Bootcamp itself is not working, or it is but the game won't install or run in it. If the latter let me know and... Read more

Ah, by Intel chipset you mean the CPU, not the GPU. Gotcha.

If you feel this is a game bug, then you want the Bug Reports forum.

Here all we can really suggest on consoles is a clean reinstall:

- uninstall the game from the XBox

- clear the XBox cache and game files (save game data)

Were these campaigns started under the current game patch 1.6.1.2 ? Or some previous one?

abeth said: This also happens to me quite frequently of late, I run the game on a Mac Pro with an intel chipset. It typically shows up post 2300, but can also happen just leaving the game paused and walking away for bit.
That might make reporting it difficult, because this game is not officially supported on Intel video systems under MacOS! That said I don't see anything pointing to graphics in that crash stack.

cpd said: I've logged about 200 hours in the past few months with no issues like these crashes. However, I bought the Overlord and Necroid DLC a couple weeks ago. The first game in this thread is the first game I've played with that new DLC, and the attached game is the second game.
You could test that theory by disabling those DLCs , either in Steam or our launcher, and starting a new galaxy that way. That would determine if it's the DLCs themselves, or the underlying free patch.

Either way, if you believe this is a game bug, as it seems, the Bug Reports ... Read more

If you check the Bug Reports forum I think you'll see other reports of this in that circumstance, I suspect the game simply cannot cope with empires that large.

Please add your details to any thread you find on that, or start your own new one if you wish.

Sorry for that problem!

Definitely a video issue:
[22:00:39][gfx_dx11_fence.cpp:32]: D3D error: hr returned: The GPU device instance has been suspended. Use GetDeviceRemovedReason to determine the appropriate action.

[22:00:39][pdx_assert.cpp:612]: Assertion failed: hr returned:
The GPU device instance has been suspended. Use GetDeviceRemovedReason to determine the appropriate action.

[22:00:39][gfx_dx11_master_context.cpp:746]: Failed creating fence
There's a slightly newer video driver now so let's do a clean reinstall of that:

- uninstall it and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install August 2022 ... Read more

Does your Mac only have an Intel video system? If so that's the problem, as that is not supported hardware for this game under MacOS, and 1.6.x is apparently fussier in needing hardware to meet spec.

If that is the situation you can revert to 1.5.1.1 in the Steam betas tab to keep playing, or if you have Apple Bootcamp installed play under Windows there. Otherwise you'll need to play on any other machine you have access to that meets the game's requirements.

Sorry about that!
