Maybe that one save/galaxy is bugged. Can you start and play a new test one okay?

Any mods in use?

I'm sorry, I have no insight into or contact with the QA and dev team for this (or any) game, so I cannot address that question. I'm just an external support contractor.

Please start a new test galaxy with NO mods at all in use.

If you still get this problem then,
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log .

When you say 'while playing", you mean within the game? If so, what if you exit to the main menu and only then load that save?

And, disabling mods does not remove effects they have already had on the save game file. So do all testing for this with a campaign that's never had any mods used in it, thanks.

Your CPU and GPU are over the minimum requirements but short of the recommended, so we can't expect great performance here!

As to memory, we need to make sure that's all available to the game as the campaign goes on.
Please:

- expand your Windows paging file maximum size to 32gb

Optional: Increasing the paging file size on Windows computers

On computers that have 8 GB of RAM, the suggested... Read more

We can try this: In your Steam Library right-click on this game and choose Properties. In the Launch Options line, paste this in there:
-dx11

AND Right-click on stellaris.exe, properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullscreen optimizations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply, and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select the fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60

Any better?

Are you on Linux? If so I think this is a current bug.

What MacOS version are you on? If it's older than say 12 that may be the problem here.

jfreif said: There are multiple threads on the Bug Report forum detailing this exact problem. When can we expect a fix? I'm sure I'm not the only to be disappointed in shelling out for new DLC only to not be able to play?
I'm not involved in the QA or dev teams, I am sorry - just an external contractor. Hopefully there'll be an update or patch soon!

We are seeing crashes on Macs since the recent patch. Sorry about that!

Please make a new thread in Bug Reports, and attach there a save file that shows this problem.

Just in the last few days I've seen some other reports of this on Macs; BUT not at all restricted to Sonoma.

I think it's time to bring this over to the Bug Report forum! Please make a new thread there, and link this thread for QA to look into.

Sorry about that!

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user empire designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris folders - In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

Unload GeForce Experience if running.

THEN Right-click on stellaris.exe, properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullscreen optimizations" untick every other box in that dialo... Read more

From your description this can really only be a game bug I'm afraid, so we can't fix it here for you.

Make a new thread in Bug Reports and attach the problem save there. Then put it aside and try it again as you see new patches come down.

Sorry for that problem!

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam
OR
- exit the Epic app entirely
- run EpicGamesLauncher.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the Epic client

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.
To see the AppData fold... Read more

You could be running low on available memory. Did you expand the paging file as I suggested?

Also unload every other app you can before starting the game.
