Are you sure of that? Any Mac newer than about 2011 ought to be able to be updated ... the reason it no longer runs is the underlying Electron code needed to be updated for security and performance reasons.

We have a source of the older launcher for Windows

Is it the game or the launcher that won't run? Because there is an issue with the new launcher where it won't run on older OSs now.

If that is the situation, can you update your macOS?

If you have a crash dump it's probably time to make a new thread in Bug reports and attach them, and the files above, there.

Sorry!

Maybe the Chrome thing is a red herring ... what if you revert to a previous game version?

Absolutely, they are separate apps with a different dev team. As the same launcher is used for multiple games, it would make no sense to have it's development tied to one particular game.

If you are on any Windows version before 10, the new launcher doers not work in that environment any more I'm afraid!

If you are on 10 or 11 though, Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam
OR
- exit the Epic app entirely
- run EpicGamesLauncher.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run the game from the Epic client

IF that doesn't help, in thi... Read more

So you can start ck3.exe but the launcher cannot. What antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

ck3.exe (in the Steam CK3-binaries folder)
dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3-launcher folder)
C:/users/{UserName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2023..14/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users/{UserName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

IF that doesn't help, also set each of those .exe files (EXCEPT ck3.exe !) to run as the Windows Admin user.

Then the game should run from Steam/our launcher, and enable all the DLCs.

Ah, that's a different matter - the launcher no longer works on Win 7 I'm afraid. If you were at all thinking of going to Win10 or 11, now would be a good time!

I've just updated Chrome to Version 119.0.6045.105 (Official Build) (x86_64) and EU4 still works fine for me ... all I can think of is there's a problem with Chrome on your Mac. No real idea what to do about that I'm afraid!

Does CK2 work okay? It is free to play on Steam now.

When I went to launch it via the desktop shortcut it wouldn't respond, I tried it again and it flashed a small window from Steam indicating it would start, but then nothing happened. I went to my Steam app directly and used the Play button, whereupon it would start up but after about 5 seconds appear to abort the program. I have restarted my PC, tried validating the game's files, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, deleted all traces of the Paradox launcher and reinstalled it, and nothing is permanently working....

I'm not ready to update my Ubuntu yet (the process looks really complicated) so I can't test 23. Probably best to make a bug report in that forum at this point!

Then it is not that either, problems start up around 80c. I'm not seeing any clue as to what's wrong !

Make a new Windows user and log into it with that. Go into startup settings and disable everything and reboot. Then run ck3.exe directly from file explorer and start a new test campaign. Do you still get this problem?... Read more

When you run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer you should see no PLAY buttons, the game should start up directly (if it can). Please try that and let me know what happens.

Almost certainly the issue is the old MacOS version you are using. The new launcher version uses a new version of Electron which, for instance, no longer works on WIndows 7 - I suspect the same has happened with MacOS!

Any chance you can update to 12.x or later?

There is no "Paradox version" I'm afraid; as I said This game is not supported on the standalone Paradox launcher at all.

You can only play the version you have from Steam.

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install

It's been confirmed that the launcher will no longer work on WIndows 7, and never will any more.

In order to run an older version of the launcher, the easiest way to do it is to rename the folder of the version you want to keep (in this case %LocalAppData%\Programs\Paradox Interactive\launcher-v2.2023.13.1) to instead be named launcher-v2.2099.99. This will cause it to be chosen as the latest version. Launcher updates should subsequently fail - Which is probably what you want.

Good luck!
