It’s not a bug so much as a result of how things are spawned, which can result in spikes of challenge, sometimes mad challenge. But really, would you want the game to be more restrictive and remove these spikes, so every event has a wholly predictable ‘difficulty’ to it on every run? I’d wager things would get samey. They generate epic clutch moments as well, which are a big hook on what makes high end play so rewarding.

We’re not quite ready to talk about it, which certainly means we’re not quite ready to release it, so no panic!

Welcome to another Developer Update! We’re still all working from home for the time being. We’re getting to know our new co-workers as we interfere with their normal operating procedures and invade their normal working environments.

If you find .Net Framework in your installed apps in windows, do you get a Modify > Repair option?

We may repurpose and ‘make grander’ the gag for next year. We planned this some time ago (before these events) and to not spoil it but clue you in, a key message in the gag was one of an outdoorsy/quasi-social nature, and as such really not the right gag for the timeline.

But even more importantly, Fake News is absolutely not something that should be encouraged right now. Sure, we’re a video game developer and not the BBC or WHO or someone you come to for real world news, but tonally it’s just not right for anyone really to be making fake news right now

So, here we are, it’s April 1st. Happy fools day?

It’s a tricky situation to navigate. On one hand, humour and fun is something we all need a bit of right now, but on the other hand we all need to be sensitive towards each other, as the situation in the world is unfolding differently in different nations, states and continents.

With that in mind, we did prepare an April Fools joke a while back, nothing too outlandish but something fun. However, upon review of that piece we felt that it would be perhaps insensitive and would be a little off-message and contrary to some of the advice being issued by governments across the globe.

So for 2020, the year of now, we will not be providing frovility in the form of a seasonal gag. We just want you all to stay well, stay safe, stay inside, play games/watch films/learn something/play board games with the family or those you live with.

We did design this specifically to have players succeed in finishing maps in order to acrue progression on these milestones/challenges. It’s counter intuitive to have it any other way from our perspective as we don’t want to ever encourage a map to disband early. Any started map should be finished, or failed through legitimate failure (ideally).

edit: I suppose a counter argument might be that a legitimate fail is still an attempt, and could well happen right at the end of a map, at which point shouldn’t it be sage to reward people in some part for their efforts? Sadly we can’t determine what a legitimate fail is versus an intentional one, and we made a game that’s supposed to kick your butt a bit, and rewarding success (and not failure) is our MO!

To identify if the issue is in displaying the launcher, you can try launching the game in “launcher bypass” mode, you can do that by right-clicking the game in your Steam library and selecting ‘Properties’, ‘Betas’ and then opting into the Bypass Launcher beta from the dropdown.

This at least will narrow it down. For most issues in having the launcher ‘launch’, this note from Julia should help:

download the appropriate version of the .NET Framework from the Microsoft website linked below. The installer should then prompt you with an option to repair your installation.

Be sure to restart your PC afterwards!
